<p>General Job Information</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>This position is located in the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), Committed Services Administration, Case Management Division. The mission of DYRS is to improve public safety and give court-involved youth the opportunity to become more productive citizens by building on the strengths of youths and their families in the least restrictive, most homelike environment consistent with public safety. DYRS will provide the nation's best continuum of care for court-involved youth and their families through a wide range of programs that emphasize individual strengths, personal accountability, public safety, skill development, family involvement and community support.</p> <p>Case Management is provided to every committed youth for the duration of his or her commitment to DYRS. Youth are assigned to a specialized unit within the Case Management Division based on the ward in which they reside or the presenting issues of the youth. Case managers supervise and support youth assigned to their caseloads and are responsible for developing and implementing Individual Service Plans, which are informed by Youth/Family Team meetings.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The Case Manager supervises and provides case management services to juvenile offenders who have been committed to DYRS. Provides case management through interviewing sessions with the youth and family to obtain the necessary background data and to explain program expectations and goals. Arranges for services and placements and tracks progress while in care. Conducts frequent contact with youth and service providers to ascertain that the youth's needs are being met or makes adjustments accordingly. Supervises, monitors, and engages the youth.</p> <p>The Case Manager develops supervision rules/release conditions and a structured schedule for each youth to assist with the transition back to the community. Works in collaboration with the lead entities and the Service Coalition providers. Schedule's individual, family and/or group contacts. Upon community release, plans and coordinates recreational, cultural, and educational group activities for youth and their parents. Conducts announced and unannounced visits to the youth's home, school, or place of employment to ensure that the youth is maintaining his/her schedule and complying with the conditions of release. Writes reports, narratives, and answers correspondence relative to the assigned cases.</p> <p>Qualifications and Education:</p> <p>Degree that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.</p> <p>or</p> <p>Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.</p> <p>or</p> <p>Specialized Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.</p> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.</p> <p>Working Environment</p> <p>The work requires the incumbent to carry out frequent field assignments (morning, afternoon, and occasionally evening hours) involving standing, walking, sitting and extensive driving, etc. The work is performed in an office setting, the homes of clients, community organizations and agencies, public institutions, churches, hospitals, courts, and high-risk or high crime communities. The employee is exposed to potentially dangerous situations and is subject to possible physical harm/attack from emotionally disturbed, hostile volatile, or uncooperative clients, their families, and from individuals in high-risk or high crime areas and from illness or contagious disease from clients.</p> <p>Other Significant Facts:</p> <p>Tour of Duty: 8:15am-4:45pm (Hours may vary) must be able to work non-traditional hours (on occasion, including one evening per week), respond to crisis, and travel to visit youth in out-of-district places.</p> <p>Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-0101-11</p> <p>Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential.</p> <p>Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by (AFGE).
