<p>Kent County Department of Public Works is seeking two Transfer Station Heavy Equipment Operators. These individuals will work primarily at the North Kent Transfer Station in Rockford, MI, or at the South Kent Landfill in Byron Center, MI. </p> <p>Transfer Station Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for operating and performing daily maintenance on heavy equipment.</p> <ul> <li>Front-end loaders are used to move, stack, and load solid waste into open-top transfer trailers.   </li><li>Material handlers are also used to load solid waste into an open-top transfer trailer at the North Kent Transfer Station.   </li><li>A yard tractor or switch tractor is used at the North Kent Transfer Station to move open-top transfer trailers throughout the site and buildings. </li><li>A semi-tractor and tanker trailer, loaded with over 10,000 gallons of leachate (liquid), are used at the South Kent Landfill to transport leachate to a wastewater treatment plant. </li><li>A roll-off truck is used at the South Kent Landfill to transport 40-yard containers of waste to the tipping face, where municipal solid waste is then dumped, and the empty container returned to the customer drop-off location. </li></ul> <p>Transfer Station Heavy Equipment Operators are also responsible for inspecting refuse brought to the facility, verifying acceptability for disposal, and ensuring that the loads are free of prohibited materials. Other duties include (but are not limited to): assisting waste haulers and the public with unloading materials, directing traffic in and out of the facility, snow plowing, using a skid loader, grounds maintenance, assisting coworkers, and keeping maintenance records. This position requires the ability to operate a roll-off truck both on and off public roads. </p> <p>Must be available to work a rotating shift, which includes weekends and some holidays. </p> <p>This position is referral bonus eligible</p> <ul> <li>High school graduate/equivalent or GED required </li><li>Must possess a valid and unrestricted Michigan Driver's License </li><li>Work experience in the operation of construction equipment and small ground equipment </li><li>Must have the ability to communicate with individuals from all backgrounds </li><li>A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and airbrake endorsement is required for the South Kent Landfill </li><li>A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred, but not required at the North Kent Transfer Station </li><li>Heavy equipment operating experience is highly preferred for work at both locations </li><li>Notices will come via email so please be sure to monitor the email address indicated on your application*  </li></ul> <p>Kent County takes pride in living our values to foster a true sense of belonging among all of our staff.</p> <p>Would you like to know what Kent County does?</p>
