Virginia Commonwealth University is an equal opportunity employer.</p> <p>Unit: School Of Medicine</p> <p>Department: Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine</p> <p>Department Summary: The mission of the Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine falls into two important categories: teaching and research. We address important research problems and provide high quality opportunities for pre-and postdoctoral trainees. Biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics are the underpinnings of modern biomedical science and our Department provides this background for all trainees at VCU, regardless of the direction the future may take them in.</p> <p>In research, fundamental discoveries are enabled by outstanding faculty, state of the art instrumentation, and great resources that exist within the Department, School of Medicine, Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, VCU Institute of Molecular Medicine and the institution at large. A unique collaborative spirit reinforced through graduate student and postdoctoral fellowship training and through engagement of our faculty in scientific interactions is at the core of our mission. The Department has research efforts of international stature in several multi-disciplinary research areas in cellular and molecular biology, bioactive lipids, cancer, metabolic and liver diseases. Finally, the Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the university community.</p> <p>In education, our teaching methods help to reinforce difficult concepts and provide individualized attention that fosters training of the highest quality. A program of instruction in teaching for our junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows and students ensures that future teachers have the necessary tools to communicate clearly and effectively.</p> <p>Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <p>The Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is seeking an Instructor with training in research areas of cancer (etiology and therapy) and cancer immunology, especially in areas related to cancer metastasis, cancer drug delivery, cancer progression and resistance to cancer therapy. Knowledge in bioinformatics would be beneficial and experience in at least one of the research areas is preferred. Cancer indication could be brain, breast, liver, pancreatic or prostate cancer. Candidates should have strong publication records, postdoctoral experience, and be able to design experimental strategies to address important scientific questions. Familiarity in writing grants and training graduate students, postdocs and technicians are pluses for this position.</p> <p>Research - 95%</p> <p>The candidate should have a Ph.D. and demonstrate a proven track-record in research pertaining to cancer growth, metastasis, and assay development for drug discovery. Experience in animal handling, particularly in experimental metastases and live imaging, is especially valuable. The selected candidate will be assigned a specific project and must possess the ability to execute the program autonomously with minimal supervision.
