<p>Description</p> <p>This position assists in the management and supervision of the summer pool program while performing the responsibilities of a lifeguard; ensures that lifesaving certification is current and that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures; coordinates in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the pools and monitors swimmers; and enforces all safety rules.</p> <p>The work is considered light-to-medium in nature and involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: crouching, kneeling, lifting, standing, stooping, and walking.</p> <p>Work environment may involve exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, traffic, moving machinery, toxic/caustic chemicals, violence; and is dynamic that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, teaching swim lessons, applying first aid and performing water rescues as necessary; </li><li>Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas; </li><li>Provides guidance and assistance to Lifeguards; </li><li>Enforces pool rules and regulations of the facility; </li><li>Conducts daily briefing sessions with lifeguards; </li><li>Ensures lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies; </li><li>Keeps the management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs; </li><li>Assists in conducting and participating in various training sessions; </li><li>Maintains rescue equipment; </li><li>Oversees the maintenance of pool, including chemical balance, flow/filtration, heater/solar, etc.; </li><li>Maintains regular attendance and punctuality; </li><li>Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; </li><li>Works mornings, afternoons, evenings and/or weekends; and </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:</p> <ul> <li>Must be 18 years of age or older; </li><li>Ability to schedule and manage personnel; </li><li>Valid American Red Cross certificate in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages; </li><li>Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine or evaluate data or information and may prescribe action based on such data or information; </li><li>Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments. Stay alert and attentive and assert good judgment.
