<p>Apply</p> <p>Job Type</p> <p>Full-time</p> <p>Description</p> <p>Rate: $24.15 hourly</p> <p>Full benefits package includes: MO Lagers Pension, medical, dental, life insurance, long-term disability and various voluntary benefit plans</p> <p>General Purpose of Position</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and management of city trees, grounds, open spaces, and parks. This position serves as the City Forester, providing expertise in urban forestry and arboriculture and supporting conservation efforts.</p> <p>Forestry and Environmental Stewardship</p> <ul> <li>Serves as the City Forester, overseeing tree planting, trimming, removal, and overall health of urban trees in parks, easements, and right-of-ways. </li><li>Answers inquiries about tress in the City of Florissant for street trees/ park trees and common ground trees. </li><li>Recommends species selection and location for new plantings, including memorial trees, in alignment with ecological goals. </li><li>Conducts tree risk assessments and works with contractors on city-wide trimming and removal projects. </li><li>Plants and maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers in city parks and green spaces. </li><li>Oversees pest management and weed control practices using safe and environmentally responsible methods. </li><li>Assists habitat restoration and native plant conservation efforts in collaboration with conservation agencies. </li></ul> <p>Grounds and Facility Maintenance</p> <ul> <li>Sprays and maintains ball fields to regulate turf growth. </li><li>Mixes and applies chemicals in accordance with applicable regulations and safety procedures. </li><li>Operates and maintains equipment including mowers, tractors, jackhammers, welders, power tools, and irrigation systems. </li><li>Performs semi-skilled trades work including painting, basic plumbing, carpentry, and routine equipment repair. </li><li>Opens, closes, and secures park buildings and facilities. </li><li>Assists with construction and development of new park facilities, including site prep, drainage, and landscaping </li></ul> <p>Leadership, Training, and Administrative Duties</p> <ul> <li>Provides leadership and on-site supervision to seasonal staff, volunteers, and community service workers. </li><li>Trains others in proper tree planting, pruning, safety procedures, and equipment operation. </li><li>Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities, tree inventory data, and work orders. </li><li>Advises on noxious weed control and enforces vegetation management strategies city-wide </li><li>Performs other duties as directed </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>ISA Certified Arborist (International Society of Arboriculture Certification) </li><li>High school diploma or GED </li><li>Valid driver's license </li><li>Ability to obtain Missouri Pesticide Applicator's License within six months of hire </li><li>Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions </li><li>Computer skills: use of word, excel, or a database software to log the trees </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Associate or Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, or a related field </li><li>Missouri Tree Resource Assessment and Compilation (TRAC) Certification </li><li>Demonstrated volunteer experience in community forestry, habitat restoration, or related environmental programs </li><li>Experience with tree planting, pruning, and long-term tree care strategies </li><li>Knowledge of native Missouri tree species and ecological best practices </li><li>Strong communication and public education skills for outreach on tree care and urban forestry topics </li></ul> <p>Salary Description</p> <p>$24.15 hourly</p>
