<p>The Success Advisor plays a critical role in supporting Wilson Community College's commitment to accessible, student-centered education. This position engages in proactive student recruitment, provides comprehensive academic and career advising, and supports students through ongoing persistence, retention, and completion initiatives. The Success Advisor serves as a primary point of contact for prospective and current students, ensuring they receive accurate information, individualized guidance, and consistent support from enrollment to graduation. </p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Student Recruitment and Onboarding</p> <ul> <li>Provide prospective students with clear and accurate information regarding admissions, program pathways, financial aid basics, college policies, and enrollment steps. </li><li>Assist students in navigating the application and onboarding process, ensuring a seamless transition to WCC. </li><li>Participate in recruitment activities, including high school visits, community events, campus tours, and information sessions, consistent with WCC's recruitment approach </li></ul> <p>Academic and Career Advising</p> <ul> <li>Provide individualized advising to help students explore academic programs aligned with their interests, goals, aptitudes, and career aspirations. </li><li>Guide students in course selection, degree planning, scheduling, and understanding program requirements. </li><li>Communicate effectively about transfer options, career pathways, credential stacking, and labor market information </li></ul> <p>Persistence, Retention, and Completion Support</p> <ul> <li>Monitor student progress throughout each term, identifying potential academic or personal barriers and intervening early. </li><li>Provide outreach to students who miss advising appointments, demonstrate academic difficulty, or disengage from coursework. </li><li>Connect students with campus resources including counseling, tutoring, accessibility services, financial aid, and other support programs, consistent with WCC's student development framework. </li><li>Maintain accurate advising notes, records, and follow-up communication in accordance with college procedures. </li><li>Participate in and coordinate student success workshops, orientation activities, and success initiatives that promote persistence and completion. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration and Institutional Support</p> <ul> <li>Work closely with faculty, Student Development staff, and program coordinators to ensure alignment of advising, recruitment, and retention strategies. </li><li>Serve as a consistent point of contact for assigned caseload(s) to ensure holistic, ongoing support. </li><li>Contribute to the College's institutional effectiveness goals related to student support, advising quality, and retention as outlined in planning documents. </li><li>Participate in professional development to remain knowledgeable about best practices in advising, student support, and community college retention strategies. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of</p> <ul> <li>Communication and data management systems </li><li>College programs, policies, and procedures </li><li>Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) </li></ul> <p>Ability to</p> <ul> <li>Communicate effectively (written and verbal) in a variety of settings, with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups. </li><li>Operate a PC, mobile devices, and related software. Use Microsoft Office (word processing, database, presentation, spreadsheets), and relevant applications or internet-based platforms. </li><li>Provide accurate and appropriate information to students, employees and visitors. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, coworkers, and the public. </li><li>Prioritize and complete projects and tasks with attention to detail and accuracy. </li></ul> <p>College-wide Expectations</p> <p>WCC places a high value on creating an engaged, collaborative campus environment; therefore, employees are required to complete their work hours in person on WCC's campus. By working on campus and in person, employees have greater opportunities to engage with students and co-workers, attend on-site meetings and presentations, recruit students, and support local business and industry partners. </p> <ul> <li>Communicates clearly and frequently in writing and speaking to ensure consistency of purpose and vision. </li><li>Works collaboratively with all members of the college community. </li><li>Understands and supports the college's mission, vision, and values. </li><li>Remains current on emerging higher education and division-relevant issues. </li><li>Fosters a work environment characterized by transparency, trust, and professionalism. </li><li>Retains a focus on the student experience, specifically, ensuring instructional rigor, fostering students' sense of belonging, and developing their soft skills. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, human services, or a related field. </li><li>Knowledge of academic advising principles, career development frameworks, and student success strategies. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with colleagues. </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Bilingual skills, particularly English and Spanish, are preferred to support communication with diverse populations. </li><li>Experience advising in a community college environment. </li><li>Familiarity with CRM systems, student information systems, early-alert tools, or retention software. </li><li>Experience working with adult learners, first-generation students, or special populations. </li></ul> <p>Unofficial transcripts must be included with your online application before submission or sent directly to Human Resources immediately after applying.
