<p>The department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition is searching to fill open sections for Professional Writing Instructors to teach sections WRT 105/ WRT 205 in Fall 2025.</p> <p>WRT 105- Studio 1: Practice of Academic Writing (3 credit hours), Study and practice of writing processes, including critical reading, collaboration, revision, editing, and the use of technologies. Focuses on the aims, strategies, and conventions of academic prose, especially analysis and argumentation.</p> <p>WRT 205- Studio 2: Critical Research and Writing (3 credit hours). Study and practice of critical, research-based writing, including research methods, presentation genres, source evaluation, audience analysis, and library/online research. Students complete at least one sustained research project.</p> <p>The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit rate history with the hiring department.</p> <p>Multiple sections may be available; teaching load for new instructors may be anywhere from 1 to 4 sections per semester dependent on need and availability. All offerings are contingent on budgetary approval and sufficient enrollment. PLEASE NOTE: All offerings are face-to-face in Syracuse, NY; remote teaching is not available.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience as a Professional Writing Instructor at SU is preferred; current internal applicants will receive priority consideration. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. </li><li>Ordering appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. </li><li>Preparation of projects or other student assignments. </li><li>Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours. </li><li>Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. </li><li>Meeting all the designated class periods. </li><li>Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University Regulations. </li><li>Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. </li><li>Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. </li><li>Attending the Fall Teaching Conference. </li><li>Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty. </li><li>Keeping current with developments and trends in the department's curriculum and in the field of rhetoric and composition. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume and cover letter.</p>
