<p>Job Summary</p> <p>As a Pharmacy Intern, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of our pharmacy while gaining valuable hands-on experience. Working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, your responsibilities will include assisting with prescription dispensing, patient consultation, medication management, and maintaining a safe and efficient pharmacy environment. This position offers a valuable opportunity for pharmacy students to apply their knowledge, develop clinical skills, and contribute to patient care.</p> <p>Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Receive prescription or refill requests and verify that all information is complete and accurate, while maintaining quality and productivity standards. </li><li>Receive verbal prescription orders, including refill authorizations, for non-controlled drugs from a prescriber or prescriber's agent </li><li>Transfer prescriptions for non-controlled substances </li><li>Contact a prescriber or prescriber's agent to obtain clarification for a prescription order if the clarification does not require the exercise of professional judgment. Provide exceptional patient care by engaging with patients and working to meet their needs. </li><li>Establish or maintain patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients. </li><li>Adhere to company, state, and federal regulations, policies, and laws, including HIPAA, DEA, and Ohio Board of Pharmacy requirements. </li><li>Maintain proper inventory levels by ordering appropriately and rotating stock. </li><li>Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs. </li><li>Maintain records for the pharmacy and ensure organization is kept up to standards for easy retrieval. </li><li>Perform related duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice following departmental procedures and policies. </li><li>Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, check for outdated medications in current inventory, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages. Keep records accordingly </li><li>Counsel patients on their medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist </li><li>Prepare and administer vaccinations as allowed by federal and state law </li><li>Commit to continuing education by attending training and keeping up with policy changes. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of all client, staff and agency-related data in accordance with The Centers policies. </li></ul> <p>Job Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) program, with an active intern license or eligibility to obtain one. </li><li>Familiarity with pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices, including knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality. </li><li>Effective Communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and pharmacy staff. </li><li>Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate prescription processing and documentation, minimizing errors and promoting patient safety. </li><li>A commitment to maintaining a high level of professionalism, ethical conduct, and adherence to pharmacy standards and guidelines. </li><li>BLS certified or willing to become certified </li><li>Certified to administer vaccines or willing to become certified </li></ul> <p>Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Pharmaceutical knowledge: Understanding how different medications work, potential side effects, and drug interactions. </li><li>Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. </li><li>Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications. </li><li>English Language- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. </li></ul> <p>Skills</p> <ul> <li>Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. </li><li>Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. </li><li>Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively. </li><li>Service Orientation - Actively looking for ways to help people. </li><li>Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. </li></ul> <p>Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. </li><li>Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. </li><li>Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. </li><li>Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
