<p>The vision of the Arlington Public Schools is to be an equitable educational community where all learners feel a sense of belonging, experience growth and joy, and are empowered to shape their own futures and contribute to a better world.</p> <p>ARLINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>Arlington, MA 02476</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>POSITION: Drama/Musical Theater Teacher (0.5 FTE Position)</p> <p>JOB GOALS: This position is responsible for delivering engaging theater instruction to students in grades 7 & 8. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle school students, a strong background in theater arts, and a demonstrated commitment to aligning instruction with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for the Arts - Theater.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Theater, Musical Theater, Performing Arts Education, or related field</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Massachusetts Educator License in Theater (Grades 5-12)</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working with middle school students in an educational or theatrical setting</p> </li><li> <p>Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies</p> </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Piano or vocal coaching experience</p> </li><li> <p>Technical theater skills (lighting, sound, set construction)</p> </li><li> <p>Bilingual/multilingual</p> </li></ul> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Design and implement a curriculum that reflects the MA Theater Standards, incorporating elements of acting, voice, movement, stagecraft, and musical interpretation.</p> </li><li> <p>Create lesson plans that support the development of artistic literacy, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.</p> </li><li> <p>Promote an inclusive, equitable, and respectful learning environment for all students.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with school staff and families to support student engagement and performance success. Collaborate with music faculty to support interdisciplinary performing arts projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Integrate technology and current best practices in theater education.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide students with feedback that promotes growth in both technical skills and creative expression.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and school leadership regarding student progress and program goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in departmental meetings, school-wide professional development, and parent-teacher conferences.</p> </li><li> <p>Adhere to district policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach multiple grade levels, adapting instruction to meet a range of abilities and learning styles.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with other performing arts faculty to support interdisciplinary performing arts projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, self-expression, and respect for diverse perspectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance participation.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Performing Arts or Building Administrators.</p> </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Director of Performing Arts/Building Administrators</p> <p>Full time, 183-day, School Year Position</p> <p>Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.</p> <p>The Salary Schedule is on our website. Salary placement is based on Education and Experience.</p> <p>Arlington has a well-established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year. The first official work day in the 2025-2026 school year will be August 27, 2025.
