This position offers a unique opportunity to lead integrated design efforts, collaborate across disciplines, and manage complex projects from concept to completion.</p> <p>You'll work closely with clients, consultants, and internal teams to create buildings that are beautiful, functional, and meaningful. You'll have the chance to mentor emerging professionals, contribute to firm-wide design culture, and deliver work that makes a visible difference in the communities we serve.</p> <p>If you are passionate about architecture that has purpose, thrive in a collaborative studio environment, and are ready to lead, this is the role for you.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Lead and manage the architectural design and documentation process through all project phases - from concept and schematic design to construction documents and administration. </li><li>Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients, consultants, and project stakeholders. </li><li>Coordinate with internal engineering, interior design, and planning teams to ensure integrated and cohesive project delivery. </li><li>Oversee quality control, code compliance, and constructability of all deliverables. </li><li>Manage project schedules, budgets, and staffing in collaboration with project managers and firm leadership. </li><li>Mentor and guide junior architects and designers; review their work and help support their growth. </li><li>Conduct site visits, respond to RFIs and submittals, and participate in construction administration tasks. </li><li>Support and contribute to design excellence by promoting thoughtful, creative, and sustainable solutions. </li><li>Help maintain and evolve SHP's design standards, processes, and best practices. </li></ul> <p>Key Requirements</p> <p>Education & Credentials</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program </li><li>Licensed Architect (NCARB certificate preferred or eligible) </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <ul> <li>Proven experience leading building projects through all phases of design and construction </li><li>Experience working on education, civic, or commercial/institutional buildings </li><li>Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage client relationships </li><li>Familiarity with managing multiple projects or phases simultaneously </li></ul> <p>Technical & Design Skills</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency in Revit and BIM workflows (required) </li><li>Strong understanding of codes, regulations, and permitting processes </li><li>Familiarity with sustainable design practices and LEED/green building strategies </li><li>Experience with visualization tools (Enscape, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus </li></ul> <p>Mentorship & Collaboration</p> <ul> <li>Strong communication skills, including presenting to clients and facilitating team coordination </li><li>Ability to mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative studio culture </li><li>Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail </li></ul> <p>Location & Travel Expectations</p> <p>This role is based in one of our physical office locations-Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; or Greensboro, NC-and is ideal for candidates who thrive in a highly collaborative, in person environment. Being onsite allows for deeper day to day engagement with peers and project teams, faster decision making, and organic moments of creativity and mentorship that emerge through shared space.</p> <p>At the same time, many of our most meaningful opportunities-client-facing and internal-happen beyond the walls of the office. Travel is a key part of how we build relationships, gather insight from the people we design for, and bring our ideas to life alongside clients and partners. Whether it's participating in discovery sessions, facilitating workshops, or gaining on the ground understanding of a project's context, travel enables us to show up where it matters.</p> <p>Candidates for this role should be willing and able to travel as needed, often with short notice, to support firmwide priorities, strengthen client connections, and grow their impact across markets.
