<p>Job Title: Foundry Quality Engineer</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The Foundry Quality Engineer ensures that products and processes consistently meet internal and external quality requirements, including legal and customer standards. This role supports the quality function by maintaining and improving the quality management system, overseeing foundry-related quality activities, and driving continuous improvement across production and supplier processes. The engineer works closely with production, suppliers, and customers to ensure castings and related operations conform to specifications and quality system requirements.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Maintain and update Quality System documents, including creating and routing new revisions and coordinating training on new revisions. </li><li>Maintain compliance with ISO, PED, and Nuclear quality requirements as needed, ensuring documentation and processes remain current. </li><li>Perform supplier audits, maintain supplier certifications, and keep all supplier quality records updated and organized. </li><li>Coordinate with suppliers for calibration of equipment such as scales, calipers, ovens, and other measuring devices. </li><li>Maintain and track Quality System training requirements to ensure all relevant personnel remain compliant. </li><li>Assist in maintaining the internal audit schedule and support execution of internal audits. </li><li>Manage document control activities, including casting revision changes and comparing prints to ensure accuracy and consistency. </li><li>Conduct contract reviews to verify that customer requirements are clearly understood and integrated into internal processes. </li><li>Lead and support corrective actions, including investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of effective solutions. </li><li>Facilitate management review meetings by preparing quality data, reports, and follow-up actions. </li><li>Ensure that processes are delivering their intended outputs by monitoring performance and implementing improvements. </li><li>Issue purchase orders for certified liquid penetrant (LP) and X-ray services and ensure proper documentation. </li><li>Review X-ray results to verify conformance to specifications and identify any nonconformities. </li><li>Oversee liquid penetrant operations and results, ensuring procedures are followed and quality requirements are met. </li><li>Provide training and ensure compliance for liquid penetrant operators, including acting as backup for LP operations as needed. </li><li>Monitor daily foundry processes for improvements and conformance to job ticket requirements and Quality System requirements. </li><li>Create weld maps and submit them as required to support traceability and quality documentation. </li><li>Review customer nonconformance reports (NCRs) and return material authorizations (RMAs), and coordinate appropriate responses and actions. </li><li>Assist with general cleaning room questions, including guidance on removing bosses, feeder pads, and similar casting features. </li><li>Enter scrap data, log returns, and lead or participate in scrap and returns meetings to identify trends and corrective actions. </li><li>Check in filler metal and ensure it meets required specifications and documentation standards. </li><li>Review physical test results and enter them into the quality database for tracking and analysis. </li><li>Maintain gauge control, including tracking, calibration, and verification of measuring equipment. </li><li>Prepare and submit quality assurance documentation to customers in a timely and accurate manner. </li><li>Collaborate with engineering and production teams on casting design, foundry engineering activities, and quality-related improvements. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Experience in quality engineering with a focus on manufacturing or foundry environments. </li><li>Knowledge of supplier quality management, including conducting supplier audits and maintaining supplier certifications. </li><li>Understanding of foundry engineering and casting processes, including casting design considerations. </li><li>Proficiency with quality control methods, including developing and implementing corrective action plans. </li><li>Familiarity with ISO, PED, and Nuclear quality requirements and related documentation. </li><li>Ability to perform and interpret document control activities, including managing casting revision changes and comparing engineering prints. </li><li>Experience overseeing or supporting liquid penetrant and X-ray inspection operations. </li><li>Capability to review and interpret X-ray and physical test results for conformance to specifications. </li><li>Strong skills in monitoring and improving production processes to ensure conformance to job tickets and quality system requirements. </li><li>Competence in gauge control and equipment calibration processes. </li><li>Ability to facilitate management reviews, scrap and returns meetings, and other quality-related forums. </li><li>Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate quality records. </li><li>Effective communication skills for working with suppliers, internal teams, and customers. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software for casting design and engineering support. </li><li>Background in foundry engineering, including familiarity with cleaning room operations and removal of bosses and feeder pads. </li><li>Experience creating and managing weld maps for traceability and documentation. </li><li>Exposure to customer nonconformance (NCR) and RMA processes, including investigation and resolution. </li><li>Ability to provide training to operators, particularly in liquid penetrant inspection and quality procedures. </li><li>Comfort working with databases for entering and tracking physical test results and quality data. Environment</p> <p>The role operates in both floor and office environments, combining hands-on foundry exposure with office-based quality and documentation work. On the production floor, the engineer works around casting operations, inspection activities, and cleaning room processes, using calibrated equipment such as scales, calipers, ovens, gauges, and inspection tools for liquid penetrant and X-ray operations. In the office setting, the engineer manages quality system documentation, training records, supplier certifications, and customer quality documentation, often using engineering and CAD tools such as SolidWorks and quality databases.
