<p>As a Charge Capture Medical Lab Assistant in Pathology, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate billing practices and maintaining efficient workflow within the department. Your responsibilities will include:</p> <ul> <li>Ensuring all billing charges are captured accurately. </li><li>Identifying, analyzing, and reconciling billing errors or omissions. </li><li>Reviewing patient account records and third-party payer issues. </li><li>Collaborating with coding coordinators, clinic operations, and billing staff to resolve charge capture issues. </li><li>Participating in the analysis, testing, implementation, and maintenance of system features related to charge capture. </li><li>Accessing anatomic pathology cases by typing clinical history into information systems and printing cassettes. </li><li>Triaging and tracking a variety of cases and materials. </li><li>Transcribing pathology reports using laboratory information systems with a high degree of accuracy. </li><li>Performing rapid data entry with good spelling and grammar, proofreading for accuracy and completeness. </li><li>Following up as needed with customers for missing information. </li><li>Coding diagnoses into the lab and patient information systems. </li></ul> <p>GENERAL SUMMARY:</p> <p>Using highly specified standard work, accessions anatomic pathology cases by typing</p> <p>clinical history into information systems, and printing cassettes. Triages and tracks a</p> <p>variety of cases and materials. Must be able to transcribe Pathology reports using</p> <p>laboratory information systems with a high degree of accuracy. Requires rapid data entry</p> <p>with good spelling and grammar, proofreading for accuracy and completeness, and</p> <p>follow-up as needed with customers for missing information. Candidates must have the</p> <p>ability to code diagnoses into the Lab and patient information systems.</p> <p>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ol> <li>Accession surgical cases that arrive in the Pathology laboratory by routine referral, </li></ol> <p>as well as outside surgical pathology consults and occasionally outside autopsy</p> <p>reports. Preparation includes typing demographics from surgical request forms</p> <p>from OR or clinics, typing clinical history, assigning pathologist, entering billing</p> <p>information, making corrections, typing addendums, revising and correcting</p> <p>reports.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Collate and transport slides and reports for members of the Pathology staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Print surgical batch and discard logs.</p> </li><li> <p>Triage and track specimens. Rehabilitate specimens if necessary and call to obtain</p> </li></ol> <p>any missing information.
