<p>The Advocate Counselor provides individual and group counseling, case management, advocacy, referrals and crisis intervention to older adolescents in the YABC Program. The Advocate Counselor also assists in implementing other aspects of the program in close collaboration with agency and school personnel.</p> <p>Reports To: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, YABC STEVENSON HS</p> <p>Location: 1980 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx NY 10473</p> <p>Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Non- Exempt (Regular Full Time)</p> <p>Schedule: September to June-Monday through Friday 12:30pm to 8:30pm</p> <p>July to August- Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm</p> <p>Salary: $44,000 to $50,000</p> <p>Major Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Provide case management and wraparound support services for up to 50 or more overaged and under credit students, to help them alleviate any stressors, so the students can successfully meet graduation requirements. </li><li>Provide individual and group counseling. </li><li>Provide crisis intervention as needed. </li><li>Provide family outreach and involvement as appropriate. </li><li>Develop and implement strategical and goal planning for student on caseload </li><li>Develop and implement groups/workshops responsive to student needs, such as Men and Women groups. </li><li>Assist students in attending school regularly through identifying obstacles and connecting with resources </li><li>Encourage, embody, and foster a strength-based approach grounded in youth and family development principles. </li><li>Participate in professional development opportunities via the Good Shepherd Services Learning and Development Department. </li><li>Attendance outreach consist of home visits if needed, outreach calls, texting, and mailing, etc. </li><li>Assist in carrying out other aspects of the program including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership activities. </li><li>Support students with all aspects of post-secondary planning, financial aid, personal essay, and college or vocational training trips. </li><li>Able to work collaboratively with DOE and GSS team members. </li><li>Generate and submit data required for statistical report and ensure that appropriate paperwork and date base entry is completed. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned and needed to further enhance the performance of the program </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors degree required. </li><li>Must have experience working with adolescent/young adults individually and in groups. </li><li>Prior experience in a school setting helpful. </li><li>Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective. </li></ul>
