<p>District 61 - Unit 580 - East Baton Rouge Parish</p> <p>Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2, & 1/Heavy</p> <p>The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in District 61/Unit 580 East Feliciana Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.</p> <p>Please visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency: </p> <p>http://wwwsp.dotd.la.gov/Inside_LaDOTD/Divisions/Mgmt_Finance/HR/Pages/Career_Center.aspx</p> <p>No experience or training is required.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties: </p> <ul> <li> <p>Operates, as needed, various heavy equipment such as Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted), Backhoes, Front end loaders, Bucket/ladder trucks, Cranes/draglines, Dozers, Dump trucks, etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72+-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower.</p> </li><li> <p>Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations. Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw. </p> </li><li> <p>Performs manual task such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, removing dead animal carcasses, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of Asphaltic Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete Pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as need to accomplish the department's mission.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator's manual and manufacture's recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.</p> </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional</p> <p>Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator2, or Mobile Equipment Operator1/Heavy depending on the level of experience and licensure of the selected applicant(s). Mobile Equipment Operator 1 positions require a Class D Chauffer's License to obtain permanent status. Mobile Equipment Operator 2 and Mobile Equipment Operator1/Heavy positions require a Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon appointment.</p> <p>Compensation: Below is the starting hourly rate for each level and additional compensation information for the MEO 1 and MEO 2. </p> <ul> <li>MEO 1: $16.06/hourly. Receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked and a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status. </li><li>MEO 2: $17.18/hourly.
