For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.</p> <p>This position is funded for 12 months; continuation past 12 months will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.</p> <p>POSITION SPECIFICS</p> <p>The Department of Ecosystem Science and Management is seeking a full-time Research Technologist to assist in the management of several research projects in forest ecosystems. The technologist will assist with the design and maintenance of experimental forest plots and forest management on Penn State's Forestlands.</p> <p>This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire.</p> <p>Responsibilities: The Research Technologist will be responsible for the following:</p> <ul> <li>Ordering and maintaining supplies for fieldwork. </li><li>At the research sites, maintaining study plots and monitoring and measuring trees and seedlings. </li><li>Managing and maintaining the research laboratory and field vehicle, located on the University Park campus. </li><li>Data entry, quality control, and data archiving associated with the research projects. </li><li>Supervise 2-3 undergraduate research assistants working part-time during the academic year and full time in the summer. </li><li>Financial responsibilities include purchasing and travel logistics and approving reported work hours from undergraduate research assistant. </li><li>Assisting with Forest Land Management Office operations </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None</p> <p>Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in a natural resources field, with preference given to forestry degrees. Basic knowledge of Excel, ArcGIS, and GPS use is desired.</p> <p>BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES</p> <p>Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.</p> <p>Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa.
