<p>Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Technology Officer (AVP/CTO), the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology for Infrastructure Services provides executive leadership to the teams responsible for Networking, Telephony, Data Center Operations, Compute and Storage, and System Administration. This position oversees strategies, operations, and budgets related to these core infrastructure services while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within these teams.</p> <p>The Assistant VP plays a critical role in transitioning infrastructure services from traditional operational support to becoming a strategic enabler of transformative technology initiatives across the University. By promoting standards, best practices, and sustainable technology solutions, the Assistant VP drives the adoption of cutting-edge infrastructure technologies that align with institutional priorities and objectives.</p> <p>Key responsibilities include developing a long-term vision for infrastructure services, championing strategies to enhance system reliability and performance, and fostering partnerships across the University to align infrastructure initiatives with business and academic needs. The Assistant VP actively engages with University leadership to identify and prioritize infrastructure projects that support Syracuse University's mission, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise-wide technology goals.</p> <p>The role emphasizes participation in professional organizations such as Educause, Internet2, and other industry forums to stay informed of emerging trends and innovations in higher education technology. Additionally, the Assistant VP cultivates strong vendor relationships to maximize the value of investments in infrastructure technologies.</p> <p>As a member of the ITS senior leadership team, the Assistant VP contributes to the development and promotion of ITS goals and strategies, ensuring alignment with Syracuse University's mission and objectives. This position requires a forward-thinking leader with demonstrated experience in higher education IT governance, infrastructure strategy, budget management, vendor relationship management, and organizational strategic planning.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>A bachelors degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required. A masters degree is preferred. </li><li>Ten (10+) plus years of progressively increasing responsibility in information technology, including Five (5+) plus years in a leadership role within a complex organization, preferably in higher education. </li><li>Familiarity with the unique technical and cultural challenges of information technology in higher education settings. </li><li>Knowledge and experience with higher education software platforms such as learning management systems, portals, room scheduling systems, document management solutions, and similar enterprise applications. </li><li>Demonstrated expertise in IT project governance, including experience in prioritizing and managing large-scale IT projects. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. </li><li>Strong expertise in managing and implementing core infrastructure services, including Endpoint, Compute, Cloud, and Data Infrastructure. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex infrastructure challenges. </li><li>In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and compliance requirements. </li><li>Experience using artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to enhance organizational capabilities and drive innovation. </li><li>Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CCNA) are desirable but not mandatory. </li><li>Strong ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels, influencing stakeholders to align with a shared vision or goal. </li><li>In-depth knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques for long-range and strategic technology planning. Demonstrated leadership in successfully implementing large-scale IT systems and services within diverse and complex organizational environments. </li><li>Proven experience negotiating, establishing, and managing vendor relationships to maximize organizational value and ensure accountability. </li><li>High level of integrity and the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, with the capacity to represent information technology leadership in high-level engagements. </li><li>Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through professional interactions and application materials. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Strategy and Planning: Implement the vision of ITS and the AVP/CTO and work in collaboration with other campus IT leaders, actively engaging in planning, developing, and managing the University's technology services.' Work closely with the ITS executive management team in planning, directing and implementing short- and long-range objectives, including budget planning, and evaluating results and progress toward implementing the ITS strategic plan.' Work closely with campus stakeholders and constituents to ensure that the applications and technology ITS delivers include deep stakeholder input and meets customer expectations.' Serve as a senior advisor to the AVP/CTO. Develop organizational vision and ITS strategic and operational plans, aligning priorities and actions in support of University-wide goals. </li><li>Organizational Leadership: Provide direct oversight for the following ITS teams: Networking and Core Infrastructure Services (CIS). Work in collaboration with Director of Administration to manage budget and human resource ' Collaborate, partner, and provide organizational perspective to ITS executive leadership.' Participate in the management of ITS senior staff meetings and represent the Associate VP in their absence. </li><li>Collaboration and Outreach: Assist and support the senior IT leadership in building and maintaining partnerships throughout the campus community. ' Represent ITS on University-wide strategic and operational task forces and committees, as appropriate. ' Consult with external technology experts to identify emerging IT trends and opportunities and evaluates them within the context of the University's and ITS's strategic goals and direction. ' Foster relationships with regional and national IT associations, such as EDUCAUSE, lnternet2, and EAB, as well as other institutions of higher education.
