<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Title: ESOL Instructor (Non-Credit Courses)</p> <p>Unit: Independent Contractor</p> <p>Department: Center for Workforce Development</p> <p>Reports to: Dean of Workforce and Business Development</p> <p>Date: Fall 2025</p> <p>Scope of work:</p> <p>The Mission of the Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at Roxbury Community College is to provide quality professional training for the residents of the Greater Roxbury and surrounding Boston metropolitan communities, skills upgrades for new and incumbent workers, and customized training for Businesses to help them reach their workforce goals. We offer a variety of short-term, non-credit training courses during the day and evening hours, and at weekends so students can attend training on a schedule that is convenient for them.</p> <p>The Center for Workforce Development at RCC is hiring an ESOL instructor as an independent contractor to teach two or more weekly classes in-person in the mornings or evenings.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach in-person and potentially virtual ESOL classes, primarily mornings (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) or evenings (6:00 PM - 9:00 PM). </li><li>Collaborate with the ESOL program manager to ensure course quality, assess student progress, and employ diverse teaching methods. </li><li>Help students master course content, maintain accurate records, and support curriculum development. </li><li>Stay current in the field of ESOL teaching </li></ul> <p>Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Work assigned schedule reliably and punctually </li><li>Attend periodic faculty training meetings </li><li>Assess student performance in achieving course goals and objectives </li><li>Keep accurate records in accordance with the Roxbury Community College policies </li><li>Maintain open lines of communication with the ESOL program manager and Center for Workforce Development staff </li><li>Collaborate with the ESOL program manager to continually improve course </li><li>Adapt and utilize course syllabi </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or higher </li><li>Native or near-native English proficiency </li><li>Experience teaching ESOL courses or possession of TESOL /TEFL Certificate </li><li>Ability to employ various teaching methods </li><li>Strong communication skills </li><li>Commitment to working with diverse student populations </li><li>Legal authorization to work in the U.S. </li><li>SORI and Massachusetts CORI background checks required. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree or higher in TESOL or a related field </li><li>Teaching experience at the postsecondary level, especially at a community college. </li><li>Content knowledge in healthcare or mathematics. </li><li>Experience with curriculum development and online/hybrid teaching. </li><li>Familiarity with AV equipment and Microsoft Office. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Compensation: $45 per hour.</p> <p>Location: Roxbury campus</p> <p>Unit Status: Independent Contractor</p> <p>Expected Start Date: Fall 2025</p> <p>Application Deadline: Rolling basis, as needed.</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>All applicants must apply online by submitting:</p> <ul> <li>Cover Letter </li><li>Resume </li><li>Names and contact information for three (3) professional references </li></ul> <p>Successful applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI/SORI) request.</p> <p>After completing all the steps above, please go back into the newly created account and double check that your resume and cover letter uploaded as you intended.</p> <p>Roxbury Community College understands that persons with specific disabilities may need assistance with the job application process and/or with the interview process.
