<p>Classification Title Job Title Remediation and Retention Nursing Staff (Grant Funded) FLSA Exempt Location Main Campus Position Length Full-Time</p> <p>Position Summary Information</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Remediation and Retention Nursing Staff member supports the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Vocational Nursing (VN) programs by planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies related to student retention and remediation. This role focuses on individualized and cohort-based support to improve academic performance, program completion, and NCLEX success across theory, lab, simulation, and clinical learning environments.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develop, coordinate, and evaluate the Nursing Student Remediation and Retention Program for ADN and VN students, in alignment with program and grant goals. </li><li>Provide individualized and group academic support to nursing students identified as at risk, including tutoring, skills remediation, and clinical performance coaching. </li><li>Collaborate with nursing faculty to design and implement targeted interventions for students needing academic or clinical remediation. </li><li>Coordinate and deliver workshops on test-taking strategies, time management, and study skills specific to nursing content areas. </li><li>Maintain detailed records of student progress, participation, and outcomes related to remediation and retention activities. </li><li>Assist with the collection and analysis of data used to evaluate the effectiveness of retention and remediation initiatives. </li><li>Work collaboratively with faculty, advisors, and student services to ensure seamless referral, follow-up, and documentation processes. </li><li>Provide support across both the Main and South campuses as assigned. </li><li>Participate in departmental meetings and committees related to student success, retention, and grant reporting. </li><li>Maintain professional knowledge and skills through participation in ongoing professional development related to nursing education and student success strategies. </li><li>Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diversity among students and colleagues. </li><li>Attend work regularly, arrive punctually, and complete duties collaboratively and professionally. </li><li>Complete all required College and grant-related reports, documentation, and training. </li><li>Support institutional goals and values as defined in the College Strategic Plan. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li><li>Plans and assist with schedules of assigned staff. </li><li>Promotes positive morale and teamwork within the functional unit and provides exceptional customer service to students, faculty and the community. </li><li>Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers. </li><li>Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College (TSC). </li><li>Supports the values and institutional goals as defined in the College's Strategic Plan. </li><li>Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events. </li><li>Plan and implement the Nursing Student Remediation & Retention Program (ADN and VN) policies and success strategies, including the retention and remediation of students for theoretical, skills lab, and clinical courses. </li><li>Work closely with Nursing faculty to develop and implement success strategies. </li><li>Provide nursing faculty with assistance in the development and provision of subject-specific mentoring and tutoring to individual nursing students or in assigned groups. </li><li>Serve as a resource to faculty in retention and remediation of at-risk populations and culturally diverse populations. </li><li>Develop, select, and implement in-person, online, laboratory, and simulation remediation activities. </li><li>Analyze retention data, evaluate the effectiveness of retention strategies, and recommend changes to the Director of Nursing based on evidence-based research and documented data. </li><li>Maintain scheduled office hours for consultation related to remediation and retention. </li><li>Participate on nursing program committees related to admissions, retention, and remediation. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge and Skills</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p> <ul> <li>A strong commitment to the mission of the community college. </li><li>Ability to be mission-driven. </li><li>Ability to provide a great quality of service. </li><li>Knowledge of best practices in nursing student retention, remediation, tutoring, and success coaching. </li><li>Skill in data collection and analysis to evaluate interventions. </li><li>Ability to design and facilitate individualized learning plans and simulation-based remediation. </li><li>Ability to coordinate complex, multi-discipline projects involving multiple locations. </li><li>Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and make recommendations as needed. </li><li>Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, coordinating and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records. </li><li>Ability to grasp concepts and procedures quickly. </li><li>Strong detail orientation and ability to multi-task. </li><li>Strong judgment, decisiveness, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. </li><li>Ability to work under pressure with multiple interruptions and meet deadlines. </li><li>Cooperation team player in a diverse working environment. </li><li>Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-service oriented collaborative team environment. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with administration, staff, faculty, students and the community. </li><li>Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to handle sensitive and confidential data. </li><li>Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others. </li></ul> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master's degree with a major in Nursing from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas. </li><li>Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience in an acute care clinical setting. </li><li>Minimum of three (3) years recent experience as a nurse educator. </li><li>Demonstrated experience with retention and remediation of nursing students. </li><li>Proficiency in instruction, evaluation, and data analysis. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population. </li><li>Strong organizational and leadership skills. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Doctoral degree (EdD, DNP, or PhD) from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Experience in nursing education within a comprehensive community college setting. </li><li>Experience in grant-funded or data-driven student success programs. </li></ul> <p>Certificates and Licensures</p> <ul> <li>N/A </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
