We're seeking a Registered Nurse 4 at the Orleans Parish Health Unit to lead critical COVID-19 response efforts, including testing, contact tracing, vaccination, and community outreach. You'll help prevent disease, improve health outcomes, and respond to public health emergencies-hurricanes, floods, pandemic threats-around the clock. If you're a skilled RN who thrives in dynamic, mission-driven work and wants to make a real difference in the community, this is the opportunity for you!</p> <p>Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:</p> <p>Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR</p> <p>A bachelor's degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR</p> <p>A master's degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR</p> <p>A doctorate in nursing or public health.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Assists the Regional Leadership Team and parish health units in coordinating and implementing COVID-19 mitigation and response activities throughout Region 1. </li><li>Provides professional nursing care across public health programs, including Immunizations, Reproductive Health, Infectious Diseases, and WIC, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. </li><li>Administers COVID-19 immunizations and testing (rapid and PCR), monitors for adverse reactions, reports to VAERS, and ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines. </li><li>Documents and manages clinical data using LINKS, EMR, and ELR systems, ensuring accurate vaccine entry, lab reporting, follow-up care, and adherence to HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA standards. </li><li>Conducts patient assessments, obtains health histories, provides direct care, case management, referrals, and education on COVID-19 prevention, quarantine, and isolation protocols. </li><li>Supports community-based vaccine and testing events, collaborates with epidemiological teams on contact investigations, and helps coordinate PPE distribution, vaccination, and contact tracing efforts. </li><li>Serves as a liaison between parish health units, healthcare providers, and the community; provides training and in-service education; participates in emergency response activities, disaster operations, and Medical Special Needs Shelter staffing. </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Location: Office of Public Health / Region 1-BRCO / Jefferson Parish</p> <p>Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a Probationary appointment</p> <p>Cost Center: 3262108001</p> <p>Position Number(s): 50633370</p> <p>How To Apply:</p> <p>No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.</p> <p>To apply for this vacancy, click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application, which can be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.
