<p>POSITION TITLE: Environmental Health & Safety Professional</p> <p>COMPENSATION RANGE: 67,000.00 - 67,000.00 USD per year</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Professional Administrative</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Environmental Health & Safety</p> <p>TARGET HIRE DATE: 7/1/2026</p> <p>BENEFITS: UNC's Career Hub</p> <p>Candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of application; UNC cannot provide H-1B sponsorship at this time.</p> <p>To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59pm (MT) on 05/19/2026.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Environmental Health and Safety Professional provides compliance and support to academic, research, athletics, students, and residential programs for the university campus and related satellite locations.</p> <p>(EHS Department Mission: It is the mission of the Environmental Health & Safety Department to support university functions by promoting a safe and healthy campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as to provide professional guidance and direction toward compliance with University, Federal, State, and local rules and regulations.)</p> <p>Manage programs and coordinate or execute functions in support of the following program areas:</p> <p>Fire Safety Compliance, Operations, and Inspections</p> <p>Environmental Compliance, Programs, and Regulatory Permits</p> <p>Emergency Management Operations and Response</p> <p>Manage and Compliance of CDL, CMV, and DOT Programs and Operations</p> <p>Oversees Pest/Animal Management Program</p> <p>Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Operations</p> <p>General Campus Safety</p> <p>Occupational Safety Programs</p> <p>Occupational Health Management Operations</p> <p>Provides Training (for Faculty, Staff & Students)</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <p>25% Fire Safety Management and Operations [Essential]</p> <p>Provide oversight and compliance of life safety systems including testing, inspections, programs, and recordkeeping</p> <p>Responsible for coordinating and conducting fire safety inspections, drills, and audits across campus facilities</p> <p>Develop, coordinate, and deliver fire safety education and resources</p> <p>Investigate potential fire hazards</p> <p>Complete construction building/remodel design reviews to maintain fire code</p> <p>Recommend life safety system maintenance priorities and suggest options for improved campus-wide fire safety</p> <p>Provide life safety reviews for event safety. Attend and conduct inspections of events and provide fire safety oversight at events</p> <p>Provide written or oral input on safety deficiencies and required actions</p> <p>20% Environmental Compliance [Essential]</p> <p>Manage Storage Tank Compliance and Programs, Inspections, and Recordkeeping</p> <p>Manage and review Mold Management Operations</p> <p>Update and maintain the SPCC Plan and monitor inspections</p> <p>Manage Asbestos Inspections and recordkeeping</p> <p>Support Hazardous Waste Inspections and Operations</p> <p>Support Sewer and Safe Drinking Water Program and Permits</p> <p>Conduct or assist with environmental audits and plan review to validate compliance with State and Federal guidelines</p> <p>Coordinate and participate in asbestos testing</p> <p>Maintain detailed, well-organized and comprehensive records</p> <p>20% Safety, DOT and Health Management [Essential]</p> <p>Develop, review, maintain, and keep excellent recordkeeping for the DOT program</p> <p>Maintain CDL and CMV compliance</p> <p>Oversee the AED, Bleed Kit, Narcan, Epi-pen program</p> <p>Manage Occupational Safety programs</p> <p>Manage Occupational Health programs</p> <p>Assist with Health incidents and investigations</p> <p>15% Emergency Management [Essential]</p> <p>Develop, review, and maintain EHS emergency management program</p> <p>Maintain, analyze, and review Tornado Staging Area and Areas of Refuge programs</p> <p>Primary responder to EHS campus emergencies</p> <p>Respond and participate in hazardous materials emergency responses</p> <p>Maintain and review EHS emergency management equipment</p> <p>Act as hazardous materials incident responder</p> <p>Maintain 40-hour OSHA HazWoper certification</p> <p>Oversee the Pest and Animal response program</p> <p>10% Customer Service [Essential]</p> <p>Act as campus information resource on EHS issues and responds to complaints, concerns, and inquiries about environmental health and safety matters</p> <p>Product internal written correspondence/communications appropriate to target audiences</p> <p>Maintain good working relationships</p> <p>5% Risk Management and Assessment [Essential]</p> <p>Support Risk Management and Insurance Operations including inspections and investigations</p> <p>Identify risk and hazards associated with campus activities, such as academic and maintenance work, and analyze and assist personnel in controlling hazards in order to protect human health and safety</p> <p>Conduct risk assessments</p> <p>5% Training [Essential]</p> <p>Develop, coordinate and deliver training to faculty, staff and students for environmental compliance</p> <p>Maintain proficiency in topics taught through continued research and training</p> <p>Maintain applicable professional and technical certifications and attend recommended training</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Requires a bachelor's degree in fire administration, occupational health, occupational safety, environmental health, public health, or a direct related field from an accredited institution. (Experience may substitute for directly related degree on a 2-year experience for 1-year education ratio-in addition to the minimum required work experience listed below).</p> <p>Requires a minimum of 3-year directly related work experience in the EHS programs or activities (preferably in academic or governmental environments) -including oversight of fire and safety compliance and experience in one or more of the following disciplines:</p> <p>Emergency Management</p> <p>Environmental Management</p> <p>Occupational Safety and/or DOT</p> <p>Required:</p> <p>Valid CO drivers license</p> <p>Colorado Asbestos Building Inspector or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire</p> <p>OSHA 40-hr HazWoper certification or ability to obtain such within 6 months of hire</p> <p>Oil and Public Safety Class A & B Certification or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire</p> <p>Benefits:</p> <p>Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans for all full-time positions. Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%.
