<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Emergency Medical Technician I (EMT I) provides basic emergency medical care and transportation in accordance with applicable state laws, departmental policies, and established clinical protocols. Working under the direction of a Paramedic or clinical leader, the EMT I supports patient care within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department and ensures the safe, efficient delivery of pre-hospital care. The EMT I is responsible for maintaining equipment, documenting patient information, and promoting safety and communication within the EMS team.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Provides basic emergency medical care in accordance with applicable state scope of practice and departmental policies and procedures. </li><li>Assists with patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, and delivery of care under the supervision of a Paramedic or clinical leader. </li><li>Administers first aid treatments, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bandaging wounds, controlling bleeding, immobilizing fractures, and assisting with breathing as assigned. </li><li>Operates emergency vehicles safely and in compliance with hospital policy and local traffic laws. </li><li>Conducts vehicle and equipment checks at the start of each shift to ensure readiness and compliance with standards. </li><li>Maintains and restocks supplies and equipment necessary for patient care. </li><li>Demonstrates proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows infection control procedures. </li><li>Completes accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policy. </li><li>Escalates patient care or operational concerns through the proper chain of command. </li><li>Collaborates with paramedics, nurses, and physicians to provide continuity of care upon patient transfer to a medical facility. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li><li>Complies with all policies and standards. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Technical School completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program required </li><li>Technical School EMT Advanced course preferred </li><li>Experience working in a hospital-based emergency department, ambulance service, or critical care transport unit preferred </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of EMS protocols, emergency response procedures, and basic life support techniques. </li><li>Ability to safely operate emergency vehicles and perform routine vehicle and equipment checks. </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and clinical teams. </li><li>Familiarity with documentation standards in electronic medical record (EMR) systems. </li><li>Ability to work effectively under pressure in dynamic and fast-paced environments. </li><li>Commitment to patient safety, infection control, and use of PPE. </li><li>Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to changing clinical situations. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Drivers License - MDOT Medical Physical in state of employment required </li><li>EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Certification from the applicable state EMS authority required </li><li>BCLS - Basic Life Support required </li></ul> <p>State Specific Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Indiana: IDHS EMT Certification </li></ul>
