<p>The Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that camp operations run efficiently and that camp staff provide a high-quality,</p> <p>outstanding camp experience to the children, parents/guardians and families we serve through support and supervision of daily camp</p> <p>operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the setup and organization of resources and equipment for camp activities,</p> <p>coordinating the scheduling and coverage of staff, creating and providing team communications and updates and monitoring activities to</p> <p>ensure a high-quality program and the safety of campers and team members. This includes ensuring that each youth in camp has</p> <p>appropriate supervision per YMCA standards.</p> <p>Scope of Responsibilities:</p> <p>Camper Experience and Camp Management</p> <ul> <li>Oversees daily camp activities and coordinates across all camp cohorts to ensure that camp operations run efficiently and that </li></ul> <p>staff have the resources needed to deliver a high-quality camper experience and provide outstanding customer service to</p> <p>families. Makes recommendations and modifications to improve service and camp experience.</p> <ul> <li>Communicates with parents/guardians to address questions, concerns and deliver updates. Participates in direct service and </li></ul> <p>leads camp activities as needed to facilitate operations.</p> <ul> <li>Monitors camp rosters as needed to provide appropriate coverage according to YMCA standards including ensuring that every </li></ul> <p>child has appropriate supervision and is never unattended.</p> <p>Camp Team Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Provides camp leadership support and expertise as a role model for Unit Leaders, Counselors and other camp team members to </li></ul> <p>facilitate cohesive and engaging activities for campers. Promotes YMCA values including keeping the environment welcoming</p> <p>and safe for all.</p> <ul> <li>Assists with local recruiting, interviewing and selection as needed to identify team members. Supports team goals and </li></ul> <p>performance standards by coaching, training and developing unit leaders and counselors to optimize performance. Provides</p> <p>feedback to Program Director/Manager to assist with staff observations and intervention as needed.</p> <ul> <li>Monitors and provides time and attendance support as needed. Ensures proper scheduling and timekeeping for staff as required </li></ul> <p>by supervisor and YMCA policies.</p> <p>Camp Safety</p> <ul> <li>Ensures the physical and social-emotional health and safety of campers by serving as a role model and instilling the importance </li></ul> <p>of being developmentally appropriate and safety conscious, following all established YMCA standards and critically evaluating</p> <p>situations for potential risks.</p> <ul> <li>Identifies, escalates and rectifies potential risks that could threaten the safety, health or well-being of campers and team </li></ul> <p>members.</p> <ul> <li>Ensures compliance with established policies, rules and regulations. Monitors campers and counselors and provides corrective </li></ul> <p>coaching and intervention as necessary.</p> <ul> <li>Sets up facilities and/or equipment for daily activities and stores equipment appropriately after use. Immediately notifies </li></ul> <p>Program Director of any hazardous or non-functional equipment. Monitors supplies, resources or equipment as needed to</p> <p>ensure camp safety and smooth operations.</p> <ul> <li>Works to keep facilities safe, clean and inviting by adhering to Association standards. </li></ul> <p>What you'll Need</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or college coursework in Recreation, Child Development, Education </li></ul> <p>or related field preferred.</p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 18 years of age by the first day of camp. </li><li>Must have 2 or more years of prior experience working with youth; experience in a camp setting highly preferred; if supervising </li></ul> <p>specialty camps, relevant specialty experience is a must.</p> <ul> <li>Commitment to and passion for the YMCA of Metro Chicago's mission is a required including a passion for working with diverse </li></ul> <p>youth including children with disabilities.</p> <ul> <li>Must have the proven ability to establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model for both youth and team </li></ul> <p>members.</p> <ul> <li>Ability to identify and leverage developmentally appropriate practices in conducting camp activities; ability to observe camper </li></ul> <p>behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques is a must.</p> <ul> <li>Experience coaching or directing team members as a Unit Leader or similar role is preferred </li><li>Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor </li></ul> <p>communication to multiple audiences</p> <ul> <li>Continuous learner who leverages opportunities for learning and applies new knowledge and skills </li><li>Demonstrates evidence of YMCA Y Team competencies in previous experience or practice </li><li>Meets physical qualifications required as outlined in job description.
