We are committed to a strong partnership with our teachers, parents, community and alumni.Position OverviewThe Charter School of Educational Excellence is seeking a compassionate, dynamic and innovative individual to serve as our School Social Worker. This role will support the school in addressing the social, emotional and developmental needs of the school's students and families, and in helping students access appropriate resources and services. The School Social Worker provides services to support scholars, families and staff, including counselling, diagnostic assessment, referrals and reporting.Responsibilities & duties (including, but not limited to) Possess working knowledge of the principles, practices and ethical standards of School Social Work; the relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations; Observe and intervene with students in classrooms, provide disciplinary support to Deans, lead crisis interventions and liaise with families; Support teachers in understanding each student strengths and needs and supporting appropriate differentiated instruction; Provide crisis intervention - assess high risk situations and make immediate recommendations and referrals to ensure student safety, follow-up for youth as needed; Collaborate with teachers and administrators on school wide interventions such as stress, anxiety, conflict resolution, resilience, bullying, etc.; Utilize appropriate assessment tools, interventions, and treatment planning approaches to support scholars with respect to their social, psychological, and developmental needs; Provides information to students and parents about services available within the community. Makes referrals to community providers, as appropriate; Consult and collaborates with social services, mental health organizations, and other community providers Prepares written reports as required; Responsible for maintaining accurate records, files, and reports to track students' progress Engage with families and community agencies to support students in succeeding in school, and refer children and families to outside services as needed; Provides counselling and support to students, parents, and teachers regarding home-school problems; Assists students in identifying and solving emotional and educational issues, adjusting to school and community life; Provides direct and indirect School Social Work services as specified in students' IEPs; Responsible of handling diverse family situations, conflict resolutions and working with IEPs; Works collaboratively with special education staff in designing and implementing social skills, anger management, stress reductions or other similar instruction as is appropriate to addressing students' needs; Assist school staff in developing and implementing interventions to allow students with disabilities to be successful within the mainstream; Provides information and assistance to families to help them understand their child's educational disability and equip them with the tools necessary to support their child's educational and/or behavioural progress. Provides parent training and support as needed; Providing counselling sessions, treatment plans or workshops as necessary and establishing prevention programs and intervention plans; Respond to crises on an as-needed basis; Performs other duties as required.Work experience & skills Master's Degree in Social Work required New York State Social Work Certification (LMSW) required Spanish language proficiency preferred Two or more years of experience working in urban schools Exhibit skills and experience in engaging, sustaining, and communicating with families Have a positive high-energy attitude and drive for professional growth Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with students, parents and other educational professionals regarding students concerns and problem Able to work independently in a fast paced environment Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations Demonstrated ability in utilizing office equipment and software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Proven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of teachers and administrators Excellent follow-through, attention to detail and accuracy, ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and the ability to prioritize projects Ability to travel between the ES/MS and the HS sites as necessary.
