URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City.</p> <p><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>____</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Provide individual and group counseling and psychotherapy for undergraduate and graduate students experiencing psychological and developmental difficulties. Provide consultation with members of the university community and develop outreach programs to promote mental health and a sense of belonging for all students.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Assess the causes and seriousness of a broad range of problems presented by students experiencing psychological and psycho-social difficulties. Develop plans to assist students in dealing with these difficulties.</p> <p>Provide culturally resonant counseling and therapy in the form of individual and/or group services directly to our diverse college student community. This may include the delivery of remote services via teletherapy (e.g., Zoom and WebEx) and delivering services in alternate locations on campus.</p> <p>Assist severely troubled students who need psychiatric consultation, medication, hospitalization, and/or the management of life-threatening situations.</p> <p>Assist with the training and supervision of graduate students from the various helping disciplines who intern at the Counseling Center.</p> <p>Provide consultative assistance to various persons and agencies within the campus community on matters of broad developmental and mental health concerns.</p> <p>Speak confidently and knowledgeably to students, faculty, staff, and administrators about cultural issues. Collaborate with all persons effectively and affirmingly.</p> <p>Provide affirming and effective services to students across diverse racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, sexual, and religious identities.</p> <p>Develop and implement outreach programs for prevention of dysfunction and marginalization.</p> <p>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Perform other duties as required.</p> <p>Some evening and weekend hours will be required.</p> <p>LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:</p> <p>Current licensure within the State of Rhode Island or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>REQUIRED:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Master's degree in social work, psychology or related filed.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in counseling or psychotherapy at a college or university or with a similar aged population.</p> </li><li> <p>Current licensure within the State of Rhode Island or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment.</p> </li><li> <p>Psychotherapy experience, including the provision of services to individuals and groups.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of individual pathology and normal developmental challenges with considerations of culture and context.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervisory experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in written communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work with diverse groups/populations.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>PREFERRED:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in a college counseling center in a higher education setting. </li></ul> <p><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>__</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>URI is unwavering in its commitment to equal opportunity, community, equity, and diversity.
