<p>Salary Grade</p> <p>Senior Staff position, Salary Grade 18 or above.</p> <p>.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>POSITION OBJECTIVE</p> <p>The Director supervises the day-to-day operations of the General Accounting group. The University utilizes over 30,000 PeopleSoft speedtypes that are managed in a decentralized environment across multiple colleges and departments. The General Accounting group functions as the ¿eyes and ears¿ of the Controller's Office for assigned speedtypes, and for all activity within the general ledger. The Director oversees the efforts of the General Accounting staff in these areas which includes monitoring entries and interfaces into the general ledger, managing the Financials, Billing, Account Receivable modules, as well as processing and distribution of monthly internal statements, analysis of activity for assigned speedtypes and acting as a resource for the University community. In addition, the Director is responsible for developing and implementing operational policies and procedures to meet the goals established by the Controller's Office and the Finance Division.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Supervise the day-to-day operations of the General Accounting group. Assign work and projects to evaluate the performance and productivity of, train, and develop staff. Work in conjunction with the Senior Assistant Controller of Specialized and General Accounting to assess the adequacy of current procedures to ensure effective utilization of resources and the successful achievement of goals and standards set by management. (40%) </li><li>Utilize U.S. GAAP and understanding of university policy and procedures to effectively coordinate and manage the analyses of speedtypes and accounts contained in the financial statements and general ledger that are assigned to the General Accounting group. This includes account reconciliations in certain areas such as cash and receivables. Review worksheets and analyses produced by the General Accounting group for the quarterly Financial Briefing packet before submission to the Controller Group. Develop a risk-based approach to reconciliation of all speedtypes under general accounting on a periodic basis. Oversee the review and collection of data needed for Audit. (35%) </li><li>Direct the monthly financial closing process including monitoring entries and interfaces into the general ledger, maintaining system-based trees and other system-related functions, overseeing the month-end processes and allocations and oversee the process in which [U]Tech distributes reports that are timely and accurate. Work in conjunction with the Senior Assistant Controller of Specialized and General Accounting and [U]Tech to develop procedures to ensure the smooth flow of information to users while maintaining data integrity and appropriate internal controls and developing new reports as needed. (15%) </li></ul> <p>NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Special projects and ad hoc reports as assigned by the Senior Assistant Controller, the Senior Associate Controller and the Controller. (5%) </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. (5%) </li></ul> <p>CONTACTS</p> <p>Department: Continuous contact with the staff, management and Controller Group.</p> <p>University: Continuous contact with faculty, department administrators and staff at the various schools and departments. Frequent interactions with ORTM, the Provost Office, the ERP team, Treasurer's Office, Procurement Services and Accounts Payable. Occasional contact with CFO Office.</p> <p>External: Continuous contact with university customers. Frequent contact with various bank institutions, vendors or suppliers; colleagues from other institutions.</p> <p>Students: Infrequent contact with students.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Direct supervisory responsibility for two Accountant 2s and an Accounting Clerk 3. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Experience: 5 years of demonstrated experience in the financial/accounting field, preferably in a non-profit or university environment; 2 to 3 years of supervisory and/or project management experience required.</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field required; CPA, Master of Accountancy or MBA preferred.</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Must have a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and be able to clearly articulate accounting concepts and apply those concepts. </li><li>Must be analytical and a problem solver. </li><li>Must have excellent oral and written communications skills. </li><li>Must be able to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals, including colleagues, supervisors and customers. </li><li>Proven customer service orientation. </li><li>Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. </li><li>High level of integrity and professionalism. </li><li>Must have the ability to analyze and interpret financial data/reports. </li><li>Proficient with Microsoft computer applications. </li><li>Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. </li><li>Experience with PeopleSoft Financials preferred. </li><li>Ability to meet consistent attendance. </li><li>Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. </li><li>Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>General office environment.</p> <p>Hybrid Eligibility</p> <p>This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department.
