<p>Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician - The purpose of this position is to perform entry level work involving mosquito control operations. Participates in field inspection of mosquito breeding sites and exercises judgment in control techniques and treatment to be applied. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.</p> <p>The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.</p> <ul> <li>Conducts systematic daily checks of assigned areas in the County to locate noxious arthropod breeding areas. </li><li>Identify breeding problems and exercise good judgment in selecting appropriate control technique and/or treatment. </li><li>Applies insecticides and chemicals according to procedure in order to maximize the coverage of the area while ensuring compliance with all applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and County regulations and policies governing the application of pesticides. </li><li>Utilizes specialized techniques such as light traps to capture adult mosquitoes; records landing rate counts. </li><li>Reads and interprets a variety of instructions maps, diagrams, or schedules to determine appropriate spraying locations. </li><li>Operates spray truck, as needed, with heightened awareness to pedestrian and traffic conditions, and in accordance with traffic laws, ordinances, and safe driving practices, for the safe distribution of mosquito control chemicals and insecticides in designated County areas. </li><li>Sprays only during appropriate weather conditions to ensure localized and lasting distribution. </li><li>Cleans and maintains spray truck and equipment; flushes the spray system after each shift. </li><li>Performs all duties within the framework of pre-established safety policies and procedures. </li><li>Disposes of chemicals, biological agents, and hazardous materials in accordance with prescribed safety policies and environmental procedures; maintains cleanliness of facilities and equipment; maintains inventory of materials. </li><li>Performs related work as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. </li><li>Over six months and up to and including one year of related experience. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:</p> <ul> <li>South Carolina Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License. </li><li>OSHA level 2 Hazardous Material Certification (Chemical Spill Training). </li><li>Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. </li></ul> <p>All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.</p>
