In partnership with the Superintendent and senior leadership team, the Director leads efforts to recruit, hire, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce; ensures consistent and collaborative labor and employee relations; and promotes an inclusive, professional culture. The Director is responsible for the administration of employment policies and labor contracts and for ensuring that all HR operations-such as recruitment, onboarding, employee support, and personnel records-are aligned with district goals and legal requirements.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of a relevant Bachelor's degree </li><li>Master's degree preferred </li></ul> <p>Professional Certification:</p> <ul> <li>DESE licensure as a School Business Administrator, Principal, Supervisor/Director, Special Education Administrator, Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, OR Certification in Human Resources (pHCLE, SHRM, or equivalent) required </li></ul> <p>Specialized Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) </li><li>Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) </li><li>Munis Financial software </li><li>PowerSchool: TalentEd Applicant Tracking and TalentEd Records </li><li>Knowledge of federal, state, local, school committee laws, policies, regulations and procedures relating to employment law </li></ul> <p>Preferred Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Human Resources or public-school principal experience required </li><li>Experience with labor relations, collective bargaining, and contract administration </li><li>Familiarity with employee discipline, due process, and educator evaluation systems </li><li>Successful track record in recruiting and hiring school-based and central office personnel </li><li>At least five years of progressively responsible experience in education or human resources </li><li>Equivalent education and experience may be substituted at the Superintendent's discretion </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills </li></ul> <p>Proven ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and professionalism</p> <ul> <li> <p>Skilled in conflict resolution, mediation, and consensus-building</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to supervise staff, foster collaboration, and build team capacity</p> </li><li> <p>Effective project and time management, with the ability to meet deadlines and balance priorities</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of employment law and school policies at the federal, state, and local levels</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and HRIS platforms (e.g., TalentEd, Munis, Aspen)</p> </li><li> <p>Strategic thinker with the ability to align HR operations to district goals</p> </li><li> <p>Flexible, composed, and solutions-oriented under pressure</p> </li></ul> <p>Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.</p> <p>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED</p> <ul> <li>Phone, personal computer and software applications as outlined above, scanner, copy machine, calculator, printers and fax machine. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)</p> <p>The essential functions or duties listed below illustrate the scope of work performed by the Director of Human Resources. district priorities related to equity and access through hiring and retention practices.</p> <p>Lead efforts to recruit, hire, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce.</p> <p>Support and expand Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to promote belonging and professional growth.</p> <p>Collaborate with hiring managers to ensure inclusive, equitable practices that reflect district values.</p> <p>Serve as a district representative to the Mass Partnership for Diversity in Education (MPDE).</p> <p>Employee and Labor Relations</p> <p>Serve as a responsive and solution-oriented resource for principals and supervisors on all personnel matters.</p> <p>Advise school and department leaders on employee relations, contract implementation, and performance concerns.</p> <p>Investigate personnel matters, including grievances and disciplinary issues, and recommend appropriate follow-up.</p> <p>Serve as the district ADA, Title IX, and Employee Assistance liaison.</p> <p>Coordinate the grievance process and ensure compliance with negotiated agreements.</p> <p>Counsel employees on employment-related matters and support early conflict resolution.</p> <p>Ensure all personnel actions align with legal standards, district policies, and due process requirements.</p> <p>Policy and Legal Compliance</p> <p>Develop, revise, and communicate personnel policies and procedures in alignment with district objectives and current law.</p> <p>Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.</p> <p>Maintain current ADA-compliant job descriptions for all staff.</p> <p>Review and determine the suitability of CORI, fingerprinting, and SAFIS background checks.</p> <p>Consult legal counsel as needed and support the resolution of employment-related disputes.</p> <p>Hiring, Onboarding, and Retention</p> <p>Oversee all stages of recruiting, selecting, and onboarding staff, including substitutes and senior administrators.</p> <p>Partner with school and district leaders to support high-quality hiring and long-term retention.</p> <p>Oversee applicant tracking and personnel record management systems.</p> <p>Facilitate annual orientation for new staff and oversee the educator mentoring and induction program.</p> <p>Maintain partnerships with colleges and universities to support educator pipelines.</p> <p>Conduct exit interviews and use feedback to inform retention strategies and continuous improvement.</p> <p>Staff Supervision and Evaluation</p> <p>Collaborate with building leaders on staff assignments, evaluation practices, and licensure compliance.</p> <p>Ensure evaluators complete assigned evaluation responsibilities accurately and on time.</p> <p>Supervise and evaluate all Human Resources department staff:</p> <p>Assistant Director of Human Resources</p> <p>Administrative Assistant</p> <p>Administrative Assistant/Receptionist (shared with Finance and TLI)</p> <p>Substitute Coordinator</p> <p>Compensation and Classification</p> <p>Establish salaries for new hires and update the non-represented pay schedule annually, including periodic benchmarking against comparable districts.</p> <p>Monitor compliance with the Massachusetts Equal Pay Act (MEPA).</p> <p>Oversee classification systems and work with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance to ensure timely, accurate payroll data.</p> <p>Partner with Teaching & Learning to manage tuition reimbursement and lane changes.</p> <p>Collective Bargaining</p> <p>Serve on the negotiation team for all employee bargaining units.</p> <p>Prepare contract data and recommendations with the Assistant Director of HR and the Assistant Superintendent of Finance.</p> <p>Interpret collective bargaining agreements and ensure consistent district-wide adherence.</p> <p>Systems Management and Reporting</p> <p>Maintain licensure records and manage personnel data systems.</p> <p>Oversee personnel records and ensure confidentiality and compliance.</p> <p>Prepare and submit personnel-related reports for the superintendent, School Committee, and state/federal agencies.</p> <p>Communication, Culture, and Customer Service</p> <p>Serve as a strategic partner and service-oriented resource for school leaders, supporting their HR-related needs and challenges.</p> <p>Provide timely, accurate, and professional support to principals and administrators across all HR functions.</p> <p>Keep employees informed of important deadlines, benefits, and personnel updates.</p> <p>Develop accessible HR resources for staff.</p> <p>Promote Natick Public Schools as a great place to work through branding and outreach efforts.</p> <p>Town Collaboration</p> <p>Represent the district on relevant town committees.</p> <p>Collaborate with town departments on payroll, benefits, workers' compensation, and leave management.</p> <p>Liaise with the Occupational Health Nurse on return-to-work planning and accommodations.</p> <p>Additional Duties</p> <p>Attend West Suburban Health Group Board meetings.</p> <p>Coordinate and oversee FMLA processes for all employees.</p> <p>Periodically present to the School Committee on HR matters.</p> <p>Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.</p> <p>Occasional evening work required.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
