<p>KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Job Title: Montessori Elementary Teacher (1st-6th)</p> <p>Job Title Code: 880</p> <p>Salary Grade: T01 -T06</p> <p>Department: Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development</p> <p>Reports To: Building Principal</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Date Prepared: November 2017 - Reviewed 2019</p> <p>PURPOSE OF JOB:</p> <p>The Montessori Teacher is a guide who helps direct his/her students' activities academically, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach his/her full potential in these developmental areas, in accordance with Montessori philosophy and procedures in a public school setting.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.</p> <ol> <li>Develops lesson plans and manages the learning experiences for students to ensure </li></ol> <p>the needs of the groups and individual students are met.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Assists students toward self-directed learning and normalization.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains a neat, well-organized, and attractive prepared environment consistent with Montessori pedagogy.</p> </li><li> <p>Work collaboratively with the Montessori Assistant around daily routines including snack preparation. Provide Montessori lessons to students.</p> </li><li> <p>Collect data to track student performance.</p> </li><li> <p>Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.</p> </li><li> <p>Discuss pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate on program planning committees, and parent involvement activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Instruct children in practice of personal cleanliness and self-care.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage children in alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest and light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue of students.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others and using play equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Help children develop habits of caring for their materials as well as classroom materials.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend various meetings including, but not limited to: parent conferences, orientation, Professional Development sessions, and in service training sessions.</p> </li></ol> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from four-year college or university. </li><li>Missouri State Certification in Elementary Education. </li><li>Montessori endorsement (an AMI or AMS Diploma) is required. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:</p> <p>Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 work days</p> <p>Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided.</p> <p>KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan - mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available</p>
