<p>Job Description</p> <p>The School of Management (SoM) at Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a position in the Sweeney Programs of Construction Management Bachelor of Science in Construction Management Program, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.</p> <p>This teaching focused position plays an essential role in the delivery of the academic program. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include lecture courses and technical laboratories.</p> <p>Visiting faculty members are expected to work collaboratively and interdependently within the program and alongside regular appointment faculty members, deliver courses that integrate their areas of expertise and professional experience and maintain alignment with American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) requirements. Also, the ability to demonstrate both methodological and pedagogical flexibility is expected to meet the evolving demands of our students and the profession.</p> <p>Programmatic coursework for this specific position focusses on hands-on foundational knowledge tied to construction estimating. Areas of emphasis are around communicating how to read construction working drawings and related specifications for use in developing quantity takeoffs for various trades, basic manual and computer-aided skills for estimating a variety of projects and materials and synthesis of information to prepare a basic construction estimate. Focus is placed on CSI Uniformat & Masterformat standards. Critical materials for student projects relate to earthwork, utilities, concrete, masonry, structural steel, and items tied to building envelope and basic interior finishes. Expertise in construction estimating methodologies, software, and best practices are essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are expected.</p> <p>The following are the Course Learning Outcomes for areas of engagement:</p> <ul> <li>Identify construction materials and assembly components from a construction drawing </li><li>Calculate the quantity of construction materials as depicted </li><li>Calculate the construction cost for various components </li><li>Define an assembly </li><li>Develop cost for labor, equipment, and material for a construction project </li><li>Differentiate between project and construction cost </li></ul> <p>The standard load for the position is 16 credit hours per semester for the fall 2025 semester. Extension into spring semester, based on coursework availability and needs will be considered, alongside evaluation of performance and potential interest.</p> <p>The one-semester salary range for this position is $34,000 to $38,000 which is benchmarked against a competitive set of institutions including institutions from the Boston Metro area and is commensurate with experience.</p> <p>Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management OR related field (and/or equivalent work experience in the discipline of construction management).</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management OR related field (and/or equivalent work experience in the discipline of construction management); 1 year of full-time university-level teaching experience, or equivalent; 3-5 years of full-time work experience in the construction industry, or equivalent</p> <p>About Wentworth and the School of Management:</p> <p>Wentworth Institute of Technology is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and is comprised of the Schools of Architecture and Design, Computing and Data Science, Engineering, Management, and Sciences and Humanities. The Construction Management program provides a background of technical skills to apply to a construction project from conception to completion. Students are taught the skills necessary to manage resources, time, cost, and quality with an emphasis on team building. Skills developed during the program include management, budgeting and cost control, cost estimating, scheduling, engineering fundamentals, and the development of analytical and communication skills. The Construction Management program has a cooperative education program where hands-on experience is acquired. Career opportunities for the construction manager are found throughout the industry and include positions with construction companies, government agencies, architectural and engineering firms, industrial firms, and manufacturing and materials suppliers. Classroom experiences are complemented by two mandatory co-ops that reinforce coursework and bridge the gap between academia and the profession.
