<p>JOB TITLE - Deaf/Hard of Hearing Associate Substitute</p> <p>CLASSIFICATION - Substitute</p> <p>PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - Primary responsibility includes interpreting for student(s) with hearing impairments as required in student's Individualized Education Plans.</p> <p>Please review the UCSD Actions of Excellence to gain an understanding of the expectations for UCSD employees.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>(Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, Certification/Licensure, Experience, Equipment)</p> <ul> <li>High school graduate or equivalent; </li><li>Fluency in sign language (SLPI Intermediate or Intermediate Plus) </li><li>Knowledge of correct English usage; conceptually accurate signed English </li><li>Ability to relate to students with disabilities </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Interpret all information presented in learning situations in and outside of the classroom. </li><li>Provide positive, clear sign language model during activities. </li><li>Assist in the supervision of students in the classroom and other areas of the school. </li><li>Perform personal care duties for students with disabilities. </li><li>Supervise students transitioning throughout the classroom, building, and throughout the school day. </li><li>Provide designated student(s) instructional services including physical, behavioral, and academic assistance and reteaching according to the IEP and under the direction of certified staff. </li><li>Prepare and organize instructional materials and equipment. </li><li>Confer, plan, and work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education teachers, teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and others in order to ensure assigned students receive appropriate services. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality by discussing assignments only with district and AEA staff who have a legitimate need to know. </li><li>Attend IEP meetings when requested by administration. </li><li>Seek professional development opportunities and maintain a continuing program of staff development. </li><li>Serve as a liaison to promote good public relations between students in the program, hearing peers, staff, and faculty members. </li><li>Collect data and maintain records for students as directed by the special ed teacher or DHH teacher. Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional methods. </li><li>Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision. </li><li>Attend all in-service and staff meetings as directed. </li><li>Follow building associate work hours. </li><li>Report concerns to appropriate school personnel. </li><li>Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION OF OTHERS -</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -</p> <ul> <li>Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement. </li><li>Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking. </li><li>Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working. </li><li>Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids. </li><li>Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS -</p> <ul> <li>Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting. </li><li>Occasional meetings outside the school day. </li><li>Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations. </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT -</p> <ul> <li>At-Will Employee </li><li>Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines </li><li>Up to 7.5 hours/day </li></ul>
