<p>COLLEGE COACH Summer Internship: Pediactrics Quality Program Internship</p> <p>Who we are</p> <p>Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) is currently ranked as the #1 children's hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. It provides comprehensive and specialized care for infants, children, and adolescents and is a leader in pediatric research, contributing to significant advancements in medical science. BCH also offers a specialized programs and services, including cariology, neurology, oncology, and orthopedics. The hospital is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and plays a key role in training the future pediatric healthcare professionals. BCH's family-centered care emphasizes a holistic approach, providing extensive support services for families so they have comprehensive care and support through their medical journey.</p> <p>The opportunity</p> <p>The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 9-Friday, August 8, 2025. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week.</p> <p>The Department of Pediatrics (DoP) Quality Program serves as a comprehensive dedicated resource to oversee the quality measurement and improvement initiatives of the 16 DoP Divisions. The Divisions span both inpatient and outpatient and range from critical care to primary care, to subspecialty care. The DoP quality team serves both an advisory and supportive role, enabling teams to choose and execute on projects in alignment with our strategic goals of improving outcomes, innovation, safety and patient experience.</p> <p>What you'll do</p> <ul> <li> <p>The intern will assist with a vast array of quality initiatives. For example, the projects we work on range from large cross-divisional initiatives to population management for chronic diseases, to efforts aimed at decreasing health disparities, to projects focused on specific quality & safety topics (i.e. preventative screening, medication safety, immunizations, continuity of care, virtual care, etc.), and many more.</p> </li><li> <p>Learn basic quality improvement (QI) methodology and how to interpret QI data</p> </li><li> <p>Use QI tools to understand the causes of problems under the guidance of the consultants: writing problem statements; setting SMART aims; creating process maps, fishbone diagrams, driver diagrams; organizing PDSA cycles</p> </li><li> <p>Gain an understanding of the functionality of various hospital divisions/departments and the intersection between hospital operations and quality improvement</p> </li><li> <p>Engage in weekly mentoring sessions to learn about relevant healthcare topics/ career paths</p> </li><li> <p>Attend project work group meetings with the consultants and assist with meeting management (taking minutes, generating action items, and facilitating the use of QI tools as necessary)</p> </li><li> <p>This position is Hybrid</p> </li></ul> <p>What you'll get</p> <ul> <li> <p>How to apply the Model for Improvement to hospital QI and/or safety project</p> </li><li> <p>Gain connections and networking skills within a hospital setting</p> </li><li> <p>Understand the basic structure of hospital administration and QI</p> </li><li> <p>Gain basic project management skills including taking meeting minutes, capturing action items, sending out agendas etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Smartsheet use</p> </li><li> <p>How to interpret QI related data</p> </li></ul> <p>Who you are</p> <ul> <li> <p>You are an undergraduate college student interested working in healthcare</p> </li><li> <p>Microsoft Office</p> </li><li> <p>Previous internship experience</p> </li><li> <p>Previous course work related to public health</p> </li><li> <p>Team oriented, proactive, organized, motivated for a potential career in hospital administration.</p> </li></ul> <p>Recruitment process</p> <ul> <li> <p>Resume review & interviews: Applications will be screened, forwarded to managers as appropriate, and interviews will be scheduled.</p> </li><li> <p>Onboarding: Those selected for the internship program will complete onboarding by May to ensure a smooth start to the program.</p> </li></ul>
