The Division of Weights and Measures protects all Ohio businesses and consumers. The division works with county and city weights and measures programs to test devices ranging from fuel meters and retail store scanners to vehicle and livestock scales for consistent measuring standards. Ohio administers one of only four National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) laboratories in the nation, which tests and evaluates new scale designs and technology.</p> <p>The Ohio Department of Agriculture is currently seeking candidates for a Metrologist (Weights and Measures Technologist) position in the Weights and Measures Division, headquartered at 8995 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Licking County.</p> <p>This position is responsible for:</p> <ul> <li>Under limited supervision, independently conducts formal laboratory procedures to calibrate standards of mass, volume, length, and time </li><li>Performs precise measurements including interpretation of results for mass, volume, length, and time standards </li><li>Calibrates portable law enforcement scales in laboratory setting in accordance with national standards </li><li>Maintains laboratory measuring instruments in accordance with good laboratory practices and maintains traceability to the international system of units through the national institute of standards and technology </li><li>Performs calibrations for state and local weights and measures jurisdictions, law enforcement agencies and external industry customers </li><li>Interprets calibration results and generates formal calibration certificates in accordance with national and international quality standards </li><li>Provides presentations on technical topics and responds to inquiries from inspectors, law enforcement officials and other customers pertaining to calibration results, laboratory policies and laboratory procedures </li><li>Assists with daily scheduling of laboratory activities </li></ul> <p>This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
