Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.</p> <p>DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW</p> <p>GBH News seeks to inform, educate and enlighten our audience on both the news of the day and the news in historical context through in-depth, high-quality journalism using the best tools and methods of the craft. GBH News seeks always to report on and facilitate discussion of the news with integrity, fairness, balance, accuracy, and civility, GBH News also seeks to tell the stories of and allow expression of the diversity of voices that make up our entire community.</p> <p>The Curiosity Desk, hosted by Edgar B. Herwick III, is a one-hour multiplatform live radio show featuring the hallmark insightful, and often surprising, explorations audiences have come to expect from Herwick's work. The show is a blend of interviews on topics related to current events, signature segments, and closer looks at everyday mysteries.</p> <p>JOB OVERVIEW</p> <p>GBH News is looking for a Radio Production Assistant to support the live production of The Curiosity Desk at GBH's flagship studio in Brighton and our studio at the Boston Public Library. Reporting to the Executive Producer, BPR, the Radio PA will support the production by preparing the hosts, booking guests, researching topics, writing web content for GBHNews.org, social media and digital platforms, as well as writing stories for GBHNews.org following the show's production. The PA also supports the production by performing pre-production and post-production tasks.</p> <p>The position requires strong written and audio production skills, the ability to research topics and potential guests, screen calls and monitor text messages and social media platforms, an omnivore's interest in wide-ranging news stories, ability to work closely with a small team and within a larger newsroom and foundation, cooperatively and calmly under deadline pressure. The role requires a flexible schedule working 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM Monday - Friday, and occasional off-hours.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li> <p>Work with the Senior Producer to provide hosts with detailed research, frequently on a tight deadline.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in deciding on topics and guests and booking.</p> </li><li> <p>Screen calls, texts, and social media during the show.</p> </li><li> <p>Quickly and accurately pull audio clips, images, and other assets for use within the show.</p> </li><li> <p>Write and publish quality digital content on deadline.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned, including assisting with other GBH News projects and broadcasts.</p> </li></ul> <p>SKILL SET</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must be a voracious consumer of news, a self-starter who is able to work collaboratively with a fast-paced, nimble staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong verbal communication and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; ability to be flexible as news breaks or show rundowns change.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to perform in-depth research on a variety of topics, national and local, and needs to be familiar with the local issues facing greater Boston.</p> </li><li> <p>Positive attitude, ability to work with hosts and other producers in a team environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong computer skills, including recording devices and technology, specifically working knowledge of audio editing/recording software is required.</p> </li><li> <p>The candidate must have demonstrated a strong understanding of strict journalistic principles and have proven ability to present detailed research, strong editorial judgment, fairness and fidelity to facts.</p> </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.</p> </li><li> <p>1-2 years of experience in journalism, media, or production.</p> </li></ul> <p>JOB SPECIFICS</p> <p>Staff position</p> <p>Hybrid position</p> <p>This is a CWA local 1400 union position.</p> <p>LOCATION</p> <p>1 Guest Street, Boston, MA 02135</p> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$40,800 - $52,600</p> <p>Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.</p> <p>GBH is an equal opportunity employer.
