<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>The Electrical Relay Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of protective relays, SCADA systems, fiber optic equipment, and related substation equipment. This skilled technical position reports to the Substation Foreman or Substation Supervisor and involves working with complex electrical systems to ensure their proper functioning.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Test, Calibrate, and Install Protective Relays: Transport, set up, and operate test equipment, perform relay testing and calibration, and install protective relays. Handle equipment up to 80 pounds, using manual dexterity with tools and electrical test equipment, and distinguish colors on wires. </li><li>Install, Check-Out, and Troubleshoot Control Wiring: Analyze and troubleshoot substation equipment malfunctions by reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, visually examining evidence of malfunctions, and reviewing SCADA logger reports and maintenance records. Respond to system malfunctions as needed. </li><li>Prepare Reports and Keep Records: Create handwritten investigation reports on equipment failures, maintain accurate relay test reports, and update drawings. Utilize desktop and laptop computers for running automated relay tests. </li><li>Install, Test, and Maintain Substation Equipment: Operate and test transformers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, reclosers, and switches across various voltage levels (15KV, 69KV, 230KV). </li><li>Perform Substation and Distribution Switching: Follow switching orders, operate and tag circuit breakers, switches, and disconnects, and ensure safety during operations using provided safety equipment. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical training or certifications related to electrical systems preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Proven experience in installing, testing, and maintaining substation and related equipment. </li><li>Familiarity with complex electrical test equipment and SCADA systems. </li><li>Previous experience with troubleshooting electrical systems and responding to system malfunctions. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. </li><li>Ability to use hand tools and electrical test equipment effectively. </li><li>Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail. </li><li>Ability to work under varying environmental conditions and respond quickly to system failures. </li><li>Effective communication skills for clear and courteous interaction with team members and other stakeholders. </li></ul> <p>Work Location and Travel:</p> <ul> <li>Position located at substation sites with work required across various locations. </li><li>Travel may be required, and the technician may need to work at different sites as needed. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Work environment includes exposure to harsh elements such as extreme temperatures and inclement weather. </li><li>Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment, and other safety-sensitive risks. </li><li>Must adhere to safety protocols to prevent injury and ensure safe operation of electrical systems and equipment. </li><li>Mid-State maintains a firm commitment in providing a safe and healthy work environment for its employees and quality services to its clients. Must also submit to a post-offer / pre-employment background check that verifies criminal history. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Talk/Hear: Required to communicate effectively with team members, receive instructions, report findings, and coordinate responses to system malfunctions and safety issues.</p> <p>Stand/Sit: Frequently needed to operate test equipment, perform detailed inspections and calibrations, and conduct maintenance tasks at various workstations within the substation.</p> <p>Walk: Required to move between different work areas, access various substation components, transport tools and equipment, and conduct inspections and maintenance tasks.</p> <p>Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Required to operate electrical test equipment, manipulate control wiring, perform detailed adjustments, and ensure accurate installation and maintenance of substation components.</p> <p>Climb: Occasionally required to access elevated equipment, perform maintenance or installations on high structures, and ensure proper operation of substation components.</p> <p>Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Occasionally needed to access and work in confined spaces, perform maintenance on low-lying equipment, and troubleshoot issues in tight or awkward locations.</p> <p>See: Required to read and interpret electrical schematics, inspect equipment for malfunctions, distinguish colors on wires, and ensure accurate setup and operation of testing equipment.</p> <p>Carry, weight, Lift: Needed to transport and set up test equipment and tools, handle heavy components, and perform maintenance tasks within substation facilities.</p> <p>Exposure to work: Exposed to work environments with extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and heavy equipment, requiring adherence to safety protocols and constant vigilance to manage risks and ensure safe operation.</p> <p>Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.</p> <p>Mid-State participates in E-Verify.
