The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) is the home of the University of Michigan?s Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health. MICHR is part of a national, collaborative consortium that is focused on bringing more health solutions to all people more quickly by advancing translational science. The field of translational science aims to build an evidence base of scientific and operational approaches that improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of translational research across a range of diseases and conditions. MICHR has the unique charge of examining the translational research ecosystem at a systems level to determine where common pitfalls exist; developing novel solutions to these challenges; demonstrating their effectiveness; and disseminating improvements widely. MICHR is a dynamic organization that serves as a hub of innovation and experimentation to advance research in the science of translation and accelerate the realization of interventions that improve human health.</p> <p>MICHR seeks a Program Director to lead multiple programs and advance the field of translational science. The candidate will be expected to manage daily operations; define workflows, objectives and milestones; lead and support the development, implementation and evaluation of translational science initiatives; and foster a collaborative and efficient working environment.</p> <p>Mission Statement</p> <p>Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.</p> <p>Responsibilities*</p> <p>Programmatic Strategic Planning, Implementation & Evaluation</p> <ul> <li>Provide strategic oversight and direction for the following MICHR programs: Behavioral Research Innovation & Support, Participant Recruitment, and other programs as assigned. </li><li>Partner with faculty lead(s) on developing and achieving program vision, goals, aims, and deliverables. </li><li>Lead program evaluation planning and implementation, including the development of evaluation criteria and data collection methods. Review and evaluate results, making appropriate recommendations for improvement. MICHR?s Evaluation Program can provide expert guidance on these efforts. </li><li>Demonstrate an understanding of how the programs fit into the established goals of MICHR and its funders, partnering units at U-M, and collaborators locally and nationally. </li><li>Lead the creation of reports as requested by MICHR leadership, including components within the annual NIH Research Performance Progress Report. </li><li>Create and deliver presentations highlighting program offerings, successes and translational science outputs. </li></ul> <p>Advance Translational Science</p> <ul> <li>Stay apprised of relevant literature that informs programmatic gaps and opportunities and the development of translational science research questions. </li><li>Develop and implement projects that contribute to the field of translational science using skills in study design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. </li><li>Consistently seek opportunities to build cross-program collaborations at MICHR and beyond, bringing diverse expertise to bear on identifying and mitigating roadblocks in the translational process. </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues at the University of Michigan and nationally to advance the field of translational science. </li><li>Disseminate translational innovations and best practices through publications, presentations and other methods. </li></ul> <p>Management Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling complaints and grievances and disciplining when necessary. </li><li>Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight. The subordinate group will generally possess a wide variety of skills and/or knowledge, performing somewhat complex to very complex tasks. </li><li>Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to subordinate group. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Master's in health sciences, biomedical sciences, operations engineering, or related fields </li><li>Prior management or supervisory experience </li><li>Experience in study design, data collection, and analysis </li><li>Substantial problem-solving and collaboration experience </li><li>Organized, results-oriented, and able to successfully sustain multiple ongoing initiatives simultaneously and meet tight deadlines </li><li>Excellent writing and oral communication skills </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>PhD in health sciences, biomedical sciences, operations engineering, or related fields </li><li>Experience in program evaluation </li><li>Significant experience working with faculty </li><li>Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule</p> <p>Day Shift</p> <p>Work Locations</p> <p>North Campus Research Complex, Ann Arbor, MI</p> <p>Note: This position is hybrid, requiring travel to Ann Arbor, MI.</p> <p>Modes of Work</p> <p>Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
