<p>Position Title:</p> <p>Assistant - Associate or Full Professor - Medical Oncology (Tenure or Clinical Track)</p> <p>Appointment Type:</p> <p>Faculty</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for a 12-month, full-time, tenured or tenure-track, or renewable clinical term-track position in Medical Oncology. Applications are being accepted at the levels of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be expected to be actively engaged in growing and enhancing the regional prominence of our expanding oncology program and contribute significantly to the teaching, service, and research/scholarship missions of the oncology team. Excellent collaborative opportunities for research activities are available within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Iowa State University, as well as the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Mayo Clinic.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be joining an integrated oncology team that includes one medical oncologist (DACVIM), one radiation oncologist (DACVR-RO), four medical oncology residents, one radiation oncology resident, three technicians, one radiation therapist, and a local consulting team of radiation physicists. The oncology service is very active in research, with multiple ongoing clinical studies in both medical and radiation oncology.</p> <p>The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center is a newly constructed and renovated building providing a state-of-the-art teaching, learning, and working facility. Available oncology equipment within the hospital includes a Varian Clinac iX linear accelerator (with 120-leaf Millennium multileaf collimator and onboard imaging including cone beam CT); ARIA Record and Verify system; Varian Eclipse treatment planning system; 1.5T MRI; and helical multi-slice CT. Chemotherapy is administered and prepared in compliance with USP 800 and in close association with our pharmacy, which is run by 4 boarded pharmacists. In addition, architectural plans for a Small Animal Cancer Clinic at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center are in the final stages of development.</p> <p>Primary responsibilities include clinical service, teaching, and scholarly activity. Approximate effort allocation will vary by track and rank, but generally includes:</p> <p>At the rank of Tenured or Tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, the position will consist of 50-60% on clinical/hospital service, 25-40% collaborative or independent research, 5-10% teaching professional DVM and graduate student courses, and 5% institutional service. At the rank of Clinical Term Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, the position will consist of 70-80% on clinics/hospital service, 10-20% collaborative or independent research, 5% teaching professional DVM and graduate student courses, and 5% institutional service. Actual percentages are flexible depending on the candidate's expertise and departmental needs.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be expected to participate in scholarly activity. For appointment in the tenure-track, the selected individual should have a strong record of training and experience in medical oncology, experience with teaching, hypothesis-driven research, and prior grant writing experience. Collaborative or independent research resulting in peer-reviewed publications and external grant submissions is expected. For an individual in the clinical term-track, scholarship could include advancing the discipline of medical oncology through the creation and dissemination of new knowledge, or participating in collaborative research. Additional information on faculty advancement and review can be found here: https://www.provost.iastate.edu/faculty-success/advancement</p> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>DVM/VMD or equivalent degree</p> </li><li> <p>Diplomate status or completion of an approved medical oncology residency program with credentials accepted by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) to participate in the board certification examination process</p> </li><li> <p>A valid State of Iowa veterinary license must be obtained by the start date</p> </li></ul> <p>In addition, positions at the following ranks will also require:</p> <p>ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience in medical oncology as an ACVIM (Oncology) board-certified medical oncologist commensurate with rank</p> </li><li> <p>Documented record of productive scholarship (e.g., grant funding), peer-reviewed publications</p> </li><li> <p>A record of successful clinical and didactic teaching and resident training</p> </li></ul> <p>CLINICAL TERM ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in medical oncology as an ACVIM (Oncology) board-certified medical oncologist commensurate with rank </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology).
