<p>Definition</p> <p>This Engineer IV will manage the Division of Power (DOP) Distribution Engineering Section. The position oversees the engineering of distribution power systems within DOP and will supervise lower-level Engineering and paraprofessional staff.</p> <p>Work performed by this group includes managing large capital projects utilizing consultants for substation, transmission, and distribution improvements. The group is also responsible for new power service customer development, upgrades, and outages. The group works closely with operations staff to resolve day to day technical issues and make medium to long-term maintenance plans.</p> <p>The group has field personnel to survey and inspect new and existing work. The group also manages the power monitoring software and coordinates communication and security improvements. This position requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills to coordinate between Engineering Design, Operations, Project Management, and scheduling.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications or Training:</p> <p>Electrical engineering degree orexperience in power substationand/or distribution design.</p> <p>Under general direction, is responsible for directing the activities of a major engineering section and/or performing highly-complex professional engineering work; performs related duties as required.</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)</p> <p>Directs the activities of an engineering unit involved in the planning, design, construction, maintenance, or operation of Capital Improvement Projects and/or private developments;</p> <p>Supervises professional engineers and managerial staff involved in responsible engineering activities and studies; directs the development of standards for operating procedures and for elements in engineering design;</p> <p>Provides instruction to professional and paraprofessional engineering personnel;</p> <p>Designs and prepares or directs others in the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts for highly-complex and/or specialized public works projects, construction, and/or maintenance projects;</p> <p>Reviews and makes recommendations regarding engineering plans and changes to plans;</p> <p>Provides engineering guidance in the development of long-range plans for departmental projects or capital improvements;</p> <p>Confers with superiors, contractors, and property owners regarding problems associated with engineering projects;</p> <p>Represents the division by speaking about engineering projects and solutions in meetings with a variety of audiences such as for special project and area civic associations as well as with state, county, and municipal organizations, consulting engineering groups, and contractors;</p> <p>Prepares narrative or technical reports regarding engineering projects or programs such as those for the Environmental Protection Agency, Smart City, or for stakeholder reviews;</p> <p>Initiates correspondence; maintains comprehensive engineering files;</p> <p>Prepares data for CIP and operating budget;</p> <p>Administers consultant contracts; prepares contract modifications as necessary;</p> <p>Stays abreast of current engineering principles.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a registered Professional Engineer and five (5) years of experience as a Professional Engineer in responsible charge of engineering work, two (2) years of which must have been supervisory over Professional Engineers or multiple major engineering projects.</p> <p>Specialization in the discipline for which appointment is being made may be required for some positions and will be incorporated in the job postings, as appropriate.</p> <p>Possession of a valid driver's license.</p> <p>SPECIAL NOTE:</p> <p>Professional experience is defined as responsible and significant engineering work performed after registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).</p> <p>Test/Job Contact Information</p> <p>Recruitment #: 25-1049-V2</p> <p>Employment Type: Full-Time (Regular)</p> <p>Should you have questions regarding this vacancy, please contact:</p> <p>Alisha Ardolino</p> <p>Department of Public Utilities</p> <p>Division of Power</p> <p>910 Dublin Rd.</p> <p>Columbus, Ohio 43215</p> <p>P: (614) 645-3751</p> <p>E: aaardolino@columbus.gov</p> <p>The City of Columbus is an Equal Opportunity Employer</p>
