<p>Job Description:</p> <p>School Counselor needed at Jonathan Law High School for the 2026-2027 school year.</p> <p>Current CT School Counselor certification (068) required.</p> <p>Salary and benefits per MEA contract.</p> <p>Interested applicants must apply online through this job posting in order to be considered for a position.</p> <p>No phone calls please.</p> <p>SUMMARY/GOAL OF POSITION:</p> <p>To facilitate the learning process, as well as personal and career development, through the effective application of guidance and counseling skills</p> <p>ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION:</p> <ul> <li>Provides guidance and counseling to individual students and groups, assisting them to gain knowledge of their academic strengths and weaknesses and make appropriate academic and career choices; </li><li>Serve as case manager of students under a 504 and maintain compliance with scheduling of meetings, completing documentation and ensuring 504 adherence </li><li>Assists individual student and groups in the development of social skills, decision making and problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, family issues, and making healthy choices; </li><li>Provides guidance and counseling to individual students and groups to help them improve academic progress, attendance problems and interpersonal relationships; </li><li>Provides crisis intervention as appropriate; </li><li>Assists parents in addressing school-related problems and issues; refers students and their families, as needed, to appropriate specialists, special programs, and/or outside agencies; </li><li>Assists in the transition to middle school, high school and post high school options; </li><li>Systematically develops and evaluates annual individual planning for high school and post high school, including career path, academic progress, high school program of studies, and post-secondary educational options; </li><li>Arranges and participates in case conferences on individual students; </li><li>Maintains case files and records of ongoing case activities; </li><li>Promotes gender equity and advocates for equal access to programs and services for all students; </li><li>Takes a leadership role in the infusion of counseling content into the curriculum, staff development, and parent educational programs; </li><li>Coordinates parent education programs on issues relating to personal and academic development, making a smooth transition from elementary to middle school, middle school to high school, and planning post high school options; </li><li>Provides individual counseling in response to student and/or parent requests. </li></ul> <p>PROFESSIONAL:</p> <ul> <li>Adheres to the ethical standards of state and national school counselor associations; </li><li>Adheres to the preferred practices prescribed by state and national school counselor associations; </li><li>Implements Board of Education and school policies and rules governing student life and conduct; </li><li>Promotes and upholds district and school goals and objectives; </li><li>Provides for appropriate student and parent advocacy; </li><li>Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; </li><li>Cooperates with colleagues, administrators and other staff members; </li><li>Demonstrates an on-going interest in educational concerns and professional learning to keep up with new trends and programs and state requirements; </li><li>Maintains confidentiality regarding personal student and family information; </li><li>Promotes the educational program to the community and contributes to a program of positive public relations; </li><li>Maintains high standard for attendance and punctuality so that student achievement is not adversely impacted; </li><li>Performs other tasks and responsibilities as delegated by the principal and/or Director of Pupil Personnel Services. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Must have a Master's degree from an accredited college or university; </li><li>Prior job related experience required. </li></ul> <p>LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects, which must satisfy the definition of "Highly Qualified" status for content area assignment.</p> <p>OTHER REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Background check required </li><li>Screening for Tuberculosis (TB) required </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO:</p> <p>Principal or designated Administrator</p> <p>WORK YEAR:</p> <p>Per Teacher Contract</p>
