<p>8 hours per day (8:30 p.m. - 5:30 a.m.), 5 days on, 5 days off, 12 month per year</p> <p>Fair Labor Standard Act Status: Non-exempt</p> <p>This position is temporary through the 2025-26 school year.</p> <p>We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). Unfortunately, due to the number of applications received, not all applicants will be contacted to receive an interview.</p> <p>Résumés should include education, relevant experience (including current position) and skills which highlight the qualifications of the postion to which a person is applying.</p> <p>All district employees are encouraged to review their personnel file periodically to ensure that their file includes current and relevant documentation that supports their educatin, experience, training, etc., as it relates to qualifications described on job postings.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High school graduation or equivalent and two years experience in security, law enforcement, and/or in a closely-related law enforcement field; or two years of youth intervention experience. </li><li>Training or experience in drug/alcohol abuse awareness preferred. </li><li>Training or experience in working with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural groups preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge. </li><li>Valid first aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. </li><li>Possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and ability to obtain a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 30 days of hire. </li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work effectively as a team member. </li><li>Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy. </li><li>Maintain acceptable driving record. </li><li>Ability to communicate with a variety of people using different means, e.g. cell phone, e-mail, radio. </li><li>Ability to utilize enforcement tools to include handcuffs, pepper-spray, baton, tasers, and hand guns. </li><li>Ability to maintain control of tense and potentially dangerous situations. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships with staff, students, the public, and law enforcement and fire department personnel. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Ability to demonstrate interview skills. </li><li>Ability to perform the physical aspects of the job to include physically restraining students or adults. </li><li>Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, GroupWise, Outlook, Word and utilize on-line reporting system effectively. </li><li>Ability to communicate security and safety procedures to district staff, parents, and students. </li><li>Requires substantial visual concentration and physical dexterity. </li><li>Required to work outdoors in inclement weather. </li><li>Required to be accessible during off-hours in order to return to work for emergencies. </li><li>May be required to meet deadlines or work extra and irregular hours. </li><li>Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program goals and outcomes. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times. </li><li>Serve as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students. </li><li>Work in a flexible and cooperative manner. </li><li>Patrol school district properties using district vehicle; park in unobtrusive areas to observe activities. Walk around perimeter of buildings and grounds to ensure doors, windows, and gates are properly closed and locked. Secure areas found unlocked or open. Provide assistance to staff, students, or citizens as needed. </li><li>Investigate suspicious activities; contact and question individuals; interview witnesses; involve law enforcement as deemed necessary by the situation. Evict unauthorized persons from school facilities; disperse groups as required to maintain order and safety. Apprehend or assist in the apprehension of individuals committing or suspected of committing crimes on school property. Chase, physically control, and apprehend suspects. </li><li>Conduct lawful investigations and provide appropriate documentation. </li><li>Communicate appropriately and effectively with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals. Remain calm under pressure. </li><li>Accurately assess emergency situations and prioritize and coordinate responses. </li><li>Monitor building conditions during patrols; call for emergency response to fire; alert maintenance staff concerning broken pipes, electrical issues, etc. Communicate with maintenance staff concerning repairs needed due to vandalism or forced entry. </li><li>Required to be constantly aware of personal safety; risk of attack with weapons; and confrontational situations. Make effective decisions in a thoughtful and timely fashion. </li><li>Physically intervene and/or restrain students and/or non-students in a safe manner when necessary. </li><li>Maintain a patrol log; complete and submit written incident reports of criminal, security, and safety activity in a timely fashion to supervisor. Provide information to building administrators and building operators concerning unsecured areas noted on patrol log. Maintain confidential information as appropriate. </li><li>Interact and work with local law enforcement and school district officials to ensure the safety of campuses and individual students. </li><li>Assist in the coordination of response to national or natural emergencies as directed by the district. Responding to medical emergencies may result in exposure to danger, risk, or infectious disease. </li><li>Refer drug, alcohol, and tobacco incidents to proper law enforcement authorities and district administration for discipline and/or intervention and recovery programs. </li><li>Patrol the buildings and grounds after the school day and at school events. </li><li>Observe student activity for substance abuse, theft, vandalism, or other illegal activities. May include the use of video, camera, and sound equipment. </li><li>Prevent unauthorized access to school grounds by intruders; write, deliver and document trespass notices. </li><li>Maintain proficient skills in security techniques; attends and successfully completes mandatory training as directed by the district. </li><li>Gather information on gang/criminal activities and forwards to the district safety office. </li><li>Provide information to staff and students concerning property protection and safety measures. </li><li>Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and outside agencies. </li><li>Ensure proper parking regulations are followed and violators are properly notified. </li><li>Observe and monitor students and visitors entering and leaving campus. </li><li>Greet and assist authorized visitors by providing directions and assistance. </li><li>Maintain safety and security in parking lots including removing illegally parked vehicles and directing traffic. </li><li>Provide security services for student activities and events. </li><li>Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Benefits/Compensation:</p> <p>Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement.
