<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Albany serves all of the college's academic units. The program is jointly sponsored by New York State, the Office of Special Programs, and the University at Albany. The objective of EOP is to see that each student admitted is provided with all the services and assistance necessary for success in the degree program in which he or she is enrolled. The ultimate goal of the program is to make higher education possible for students who lack the normal credentials for college admissions, but who have the potential and motivation for academic success.</p> <p>The EOP lecturer will be administratively responsible to the EOP director and will work closely with other EOP instructors, counselors, and program staffers. The EOP lecturer will be assigned to teach in the fall and spring semesters. This person must be able to work effectively with college students who are economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach 2 sections each semester of EOP high-intensity model courses that meet 4 - 5 per week. </li><li>Assume responsibility for implementing the instructional goals of the EOP high-intensity model </li><li>Contribute to curriculum revisions and syllabus construction </li><li>Ensure that EOP students receive the necessary competencies in a particular academic area </li><li>Assume responsibility for maintaining accurate and complete records of student performance </li><li>Advocate for non-traditional/EOP college students </li><li>Conduct one-on-one and group conferences for study skills purposes </li><li>Participate in professional activities </li><li>Participate in scheduled staff meetings </li><li>Create and maintain channels of referral for academically underperforming students </li><li>Provide student progress recommendations to the EOP director </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>A Masters of Arts in English from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by August 2025. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered. </li><li>Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community. </li><li>Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role. </li><li>Applicants must have experience teaching High Intensity English Courses or related undergraduate courses each semester. </li><li>Applicants must address in their applications their sensitivity to and ability to motivate low income/first college generation students. </li><li>Applicants must must have experience with use of computer technology in the classroom and Student Information Systems (ex. EAB). </li><li>Applicants must be able to assess students' needs -- pre-assessment and post assessment and use student data to inform instruction; be knowledgeable of best practice in the field of literacy development. </li><li>Applicants must be available to hold office hours, provide assistance 1:1 and in small groups. </li><li>Applicants must be available to effectively communicate and collaborate with other EOP Instructors, EOP Counselors, the EOP Director, and other units on campus. </li><li>Must be able to teach English/Writing courses during the 5 week pre-freshman summer program. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Doctorate Degree preferred in the English field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. </li><li>Three or more years teaching undergraduate English courses. </li><li>Experience with curriculum development. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Professional Rank and Salary Range: 10 Month Lecturer, Salary commensurate with experience</p> <p>The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act, mandates that all Title IV institutions, without exception, prepare, publish and distribute an Annual Security Report.
