Responsibilities include preparing patients for exams and procedures, collecting vital signs, administering medications and vaccinations, managing referrals, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation. The CMA plays a key role in patient education, follow-up coordination, and maintaining compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.</p> <p>Clinical Excellence & Patient Care - 70%</p> <ul> <li> <p>Prepare patients for exams and minor procedures, obtaining vital signs and health histories.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform clinical tasks within scope, including administering medications, vaccinations, and specimen collection.</p> </li><li> <p>Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record following established protocols.</p> </li><li> <p>Track follow-up care related to lab tests, procedures, and specialist referrals.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage incoming results and coordinate follow-up per provider instructions.</p> </li></ul> <p>Development & Patient Education - 20%</p> <ul> <li> <p>Answer patient/family questions and reinforce provider instructions.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain knowledge of lab/procedure results and act within licensure scope.</p> </li><li> <p>Stay current on policies, compliance standards (CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA), and department communications.</p> </li><li> <p>Support team collaboration and contribute to a positive patient experience.</p> </li></ul> <p>UPH Performance Criteria - 10%</p> <ul> <li> <p>Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and behaviors.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure regular, reliable attendance and completion of all mandatory training.</p> </li><li> <p>Uphold professional standards related to licensure, safety, compliance, and confidentiality.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.</p> </li><li> <p>Alternative: 3-5 years CMA experience or completion of a registered apprenticeship.</p> </li><li> <p>High school diploma required for CLIA-moderate complexity lab work.</p> </li></ul> <p>Licensure/Certifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Current CMA certification (AAMA, NCCT, AMT, or NHA).</p> </li><li> <p>Current BLS and Mandatory Reporter certifications.</p> </li><li> <p>Valid driver's license if driving for work-related tasks.</p> </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Prior clinical experience in a medical office preferred. </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Strong communication and patient-service orientation.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in basic computer tasks (Microsoft Office).</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to think critically and work independently within licensure scope.</p> </li><li> <p>Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.</p> </li></ul>
