<p>The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Short Term Rental Planning Technician I/II. This position will focus on Zoning Code Compliance for the Short-Term Rentals within the City as part of the Zoning Administration division within the Planning and Community Development department.</p> <p>The position may be classified as Planning Technician I or Planning Technician II depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.</p> <p>The associated pay grades are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>Planning Technician I G.19: $42,536.00 - $65,936.00 </li><li>Planning Technician II G.22: $49,535.71 - $76,322.64 </li></ul> <p>This position is a hybrid role consisting of approximately 90% administrative work and 10% field work. Responsibilities include processing permits, responding to public inquiries, maintaining accurate records, and monitoring short-term rental listings on platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO for compliance. The field portion of the role involves reviewing required STR signage and parking plans, as well as conducting life safety inspections. The position requires strong attention to detail, and sound organizational skills.</p> <p>Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Research properties to obtain all pertinent information, including but not limited to: Conditional Use Permits, Change of Zoning, and other City Council actions, previous and outstanding violations, real estate assessor information, Board of Zoning Appeal actions, Commissioner of Revenue business license and other information as needed. </li><li>Receive and process annual short-term permits assuring completeness through issuance, including citizen communications surrounding compliance at permit renewal. </li><li>Properly document and manage files in the Accela automated documentation system and keep all records current, documenting inspections, findings, and future actions. </li><li>Complete site inspections required throughout permitting process. </li><li>Answer telephone calls, emails, and walk-in inquiries from citizens, recipients of notices of violations, complaints, and property owners and provide the necessary requested information. </li><li>Review advertisements and virtually inspect properties for compliance of conditions and/or proffer agreements approved by City Council. </li><li>Assist with documentation and communications for court proceedings and summons requests as needed. </li><li>Assist with FOIA requests and other projects requiring research and gathering of information by searching electronic databases, hard copy files, scanning documents, etc. </li></ul> <p>The City offers a generous benefits package, which includes health, dental and life insurance, retirement and savings plans, maternity/paternity and parental leave, holidays and leave.</p>
