<p>Job Title: Custodial Manager</p> <p>Reports To: Director of Buildings and Grounds</p> <p>Location: Lebanon Community School Corporation, Lebanon, Indiana</p> <p>Shift: Typically, Monday-Friday - hours may vary based on school needs and events</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Date Prepared: May 5, 2025</p> <p>Job Summary: The Custodial Manager leads and directs the custodial team to ensure the school corporation's facilities are maintained in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition. This role focuses on supervising staff, managing daily cleaning tasks, responding to immediate needs, supporting school events, maintaining supply levels, and ensuring a positive and healthy environment conducive to learning for students, staff, and visitors.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Supervision & Leadership:</p> <ul> <li>Directly hires, supervises, trains, schedules, assigns tasks to, and evaluates the performance of all custodial personnel within assigned buildings. </li><li>Conducts regular inspections of buildings and grounds to ensure cleaning standards, safety protocols, and work quality are maintained. </li><li>Provides coaching, guidance, and corrective action to staff as needed. </li><li>Fosters a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and efficiency. </li><li>Manages timekeeping and approves leave requests for staff according to district policy. </li><li>Coordinates staffing to ensure adequate coverage for daily routines and special events. </li></ul> <p>Daily Operations & Cleaning Management:</p> <ul> <li>Oversees and ensures the timely completion of routine day shift cleaning tasks, including restroom sanitation and stocking, floor care (spills, spot cleaning, vacuuming high-traffic areas), trash removal, common area cleaning, and window/glass cleaning. </li><li>Manages routine and periodic floor care programs including, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and potentially stripping and waxing floors as scheduled. </li><li>Responds promptly and effectively to urgent cleaning needs, spills, bodily fluid incidents (following proper protocols), and other facility-related issues arising during the school day. </li><li>Ensures assigned areas are prepared and presentable for daily school activities. </li></ul> <p>Evening Operations & Cleaning Management:</p> <ul> <li>Oversees and ensures the thorough completion of second shift cleaning tasks, including detailed classroom cleaning, comprehensive restroom sanitation and stocking, common area cleaning, and extensive trash removal. </li><li>Ensures all assigned areas are cleaned and properly prepared for the start of the next school day. </li><li>Addresses any cleaning or facility issues discovered during the evening shift, taking corrective action or reporting as necessary. </li></ul> <p>Event & Activity Support:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates with school administration and staff regarding setup requirements for meetings, assemblies, lunches, and athletic events (e.g., arranging furniture, equipment). </li><li>Oversees and assists with cleanup following events. </li></ul> <p>Supply & Equipment Management:</p> <ul> <li>Monitors inventory levels of cleaning supplies, paper products, and restroom consumables. </li><li>Initiates requisitions for supplies and equipment according to district procedures. </li><li>Ensures custodial equipment (vacuums, floor machines, carts, etc.) is maintained in safe, working order and stored properly. </li><li>Trains staff on the proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and materials. </li></ul> <p>Safety & Compliance:</p> <ul> <li>Enforces established safety procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals (SDS compliance), and reporting of unsafe conditions. </li><li>Ensures custodial closets and storage areas are kept clean, organized, and secure. </li><li>Reports maintenance needs or facility damage observed during the shift to the appropriate department. </li><li>May assist with minor building security tasks during the day, such as unlocking/locking specific areas as directed. </li><li>Crucially, ensures assigned buildings are properly secured at the end of the shift, including checking doors, windows, and turning off unnecessary lights according to procedures. </li></ul> <p>Communication & Collaboration:</p> <ul> <li>Serves as the primary point of contact for custodial matters within assigned buildings. </li><li>Communicates effectively and professionally with school administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and visitors. </li><li>Coordinates effectively with other custodial supervisors regarding ongoing tasks, issues, and necessary hand-off information. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises and evaluates all Custodial staff within assigned facilities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Education: </li><li>High School Diploma or GED required. </li><li>Experience: </li><li>Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in institutional or commercial cleaning/custodial work. </li><li>Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of proven supervisory or lead worker experience required, preferably in a custodial setting. </li><li>Experience working in a K-12 school environment is highly preferred. </li><li>Experience managing cleaning tasks and staff during busy operational hours is desirable. </li><li>Skills & Knowledge: </li><li>Strong knowledge of effective cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment used in custodial operations. </li><li>Understanding of proper sanitation and disinfection procedures, especially relevant in a school setting. </li><li>Knowledge of workplace safety practices and chemical handling procedures (SDS). </li><li>Proven ability to lead, supervise, train, and motivate staff. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with diverse groups (staff, students, administrators). </li><li>Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize tasks effectively. </li><li>Ability to conduct inspections and maintain quality standards. </li><li>Basic computer skills for email communication and potential use of timekeeping or work order systems. </li><li>Problem-solving skills to address immediate cleaning or minor facility issues. </li><li>Licenses & Certifications: </li><li>Ability to pass required background checks essential for working in a school environment. </li><li>Valid Driver's License required. </li><li>Subject to LCSC Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy. </li><li>Custodial or Facilities Management certifications are a plus. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions & Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Work is performed primarily indoors within school buildings during hours when students and staff are present; may involve some evening and outdoor work related to building entrances or immediate grounds cleanup. </li><li>Environment may be busy and noisy during school hours. </li><li>Requires significant walking and standing for extended periods. </li><li>Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of cleaning equipment and supplies (up to 50 pounds). </li><li>Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching are required. </li><li>Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and potential allergens; requires adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE. </li></ul> <p>Application Process: Interested candidates should submit an online application at: Lebanon Community School Corporation - Frontline Recruitment</p> <p>Compensation: Competitive hourly wage or salary (based on FLSA status) and benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience, as established by the School Board.</p> <p>Employee Benefits</p>
