<p>Responsibilities*</p> <ul> <li>Treatment of adults with communication and swallowing disorders, with specific focus disorders related to head and neck cancer. </li><li>Evaluation of adults with speech and swallowing disorders, including pre- and post-laryngectomy. </li><li>Documentation of clinical findings, adhering to regulatory agency and insurance requirements. </li><li>Education of patients and families regarding communication and swallowing disorders. </li><li>Diagnose speech, language and cognitive-communicative disorders. </li><li>Evaluate voice disorders. </li><li>Evaluate oral-pharyngeal swallowing disorders, using clinical as well as instrumental evaluation </li></ul> <p>tools.</p> <ul> <li>Design and implement treatment programs to facilitate improved communication and swallowing </li></ul> <p>skills. Maintain standards of clinical productivity.</p> <ul> <li>Counsel patients and their families concerning social, behavioral, and psychological problems </li></ul> <p>associated with communication and swallowing disorders.</p> <ul> <li>Provide documentation of evaluation data, test/re-test data and speech-language progress, in </li></ul> <p>accordance with insurance and regulatory agency requirements.</p> <ul> <li>Provide patients and families with recommendations and referrals to appropriate health care </li></ul> <p>sources.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in patient evaluation conferences with emphasis on discharge planning and referrals </li></ul> <p>pertinent to continued rehabilitation and/or stabilization of clinical gains.</p> <ul> <li>Provide assistance to medical and rehabilitation team members about the most feasible </li></ul> <p>communication pathways to help the patient achieve maximum understanding of medical</p> <p>information and rehabilitation techniques.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in research and the preparation of papers for publication or presentations related to </li></ul> <p>communication and swallowing disorders.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in staff meetings regarding individual patients with physicians, nurses, insurance </li></ul> <p>representatives and allied health professionals.</p> <ul> <li>Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain </li></ul> <p>areas.</p> <ul> <li>Perform other related duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>What You'll Do</p> <p>Speech-Language Pathologist will work in tandem with surgeons targeting pre-operative diagnostics, post-operative diagnostics and rehabilitation to help restore and improve speech, voice and swallowing following head and neck cancer.</p> <p>Required Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. </li><li>Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan. </li><li>A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) awarded by the American Speech Language Hearing </li><li>Association (ASHA), or eligibility to initiate a Clinical Fellowship. </li><li>This classification requires Primary Source Verification. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Progressively complex experience with the assessment and treatment of speech, resonance, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. </li><li>Previous experience with videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing is desirable. </li><li>Previous experience with assessment/treatment of patients status post laryngectomy is desirable. </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Why Join Michigan Medicine?</p> <p>Michigan Medicine is one of the largest health care complexes in the world and has been the site of many groundbreaking medical and technological advancements since the opening of the U-M Medical School in 1850.
