<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY: Danbury Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Resource Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to students with IEPs through both pull-out and push-in support models. The Resource Teacher will work to meet students' academic and behavioral goals in alignment with the general education curriculum and state standards. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, flexible, and committed to fostering inclusive environments that support diverse learners. This position requires close collaboration with general education teachers, families, and support staff to foster student growth and achievement across academic and functional skill areas.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Provide Targeted, Individualized Instruction: Deliver specialized instruction in a Resource Room or through push-in support, aligned with student IEP goals and the general education curriculum. </li><li>Utilize Diagnostic Instruments: Use diagnostic assessments to measure and track student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to support individual learning goals. </li><li>Data Management: Maintain and utilize a data management system to track progress towards IEP goals and objectives, ensuring that adjustments are made based on measurable outcomes. </li><li>Develop and Implement IEPs: Actively participate in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student, ensuring they reflect students' strengths, needs, and progress. Write well-crafted IEPs that support individualized learning goals. </li><li>Differentiated Instruction: Deliver content using specialized instructional materials and differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of students, utilizing accommodations and modifications as appropriate. </li><li>Behavioral Support: Develop and implement individual, classroom, and school-wide behavioral plans for students as needed. Work to improve student behavior through data collection and behavioral interventions. </li><li>Consultation with Teachers and Related Services: Regularly collaborate with general education teachers and related services staff to monitor student progress, share strategies, and adjust instruction as needed to support student learning. </li><li>Diagnostic Observations: Perform regular classroom observations to collect diagnostic data, inform instruction, and improve student learning experiences. </li><li>Communication and Collaboration: Maintain ongoing communication with administration, staff, and parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, share insights, and foster a team-oriented approach to student support. </li><li>Planning and Placement Team (PPT) Meetings: Participate in PPT meetings, contributing to discussions about student progress and needs. Use PPT findings to make improvements in student learning experiences. </li><li>Adhere to Special Education Guidelines: Ensure compliance with all special education regulations, district policies, and ethical standards. Stay current with best practices in special education. </li><li>Professional Development: Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices and stay informed on current trends and best practices in special education. </li><li>Other Duties: Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the administration. </li></ul> <p>JOB REQUIREMENTS - MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in assessment methods and data interpretation.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to support diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English language learners.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with specialized instruction and remediation.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of child development and behavior management.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective interpersonal and communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with Connecticut and federal special education regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong organizational skills and a commitment to confidentiality.</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred Education and Experience:</p> </li><li> <p>Successful experience as a special education teacher.</p> </li><li> <p>Second language or language acquisition background.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working with culturally and economically diverse students.</p> </li><li> <p>Education/Certification Requirements:</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.</p> </li><li> <p>Must hold or be eligible for Connecticut State certification in Special Education (065, 165).</p> </li></ul> <p>APPLICATION PROCESS:</p> <p>Apply online at: www.danbury.k12.ct.us</p>
