<p>Job Title:Recreation Assistant</p> <p>Location:New Brunswick (NB)</p> <p>Department Name:Recreational Therapy</p> <p>Req #:0000205283</p> <p>Status:per hour</p> <p>Shift:Day</p> <p>Pay Range: $16.88 - $22.00, per hour</p> <p>Pay Transparency:</p> <p>The above reflects the anticipated per hour range for this position if hired to work,</p> <p>The Compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience,</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Under the supervision of a Child Life Specialist or Recreational Therapist, plans and implements diversional recreation services to assist with alleviating the effects of hospitalization and or improve quality of life,</p> <p>Maintains program areas and supplies,</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Demonstrates knowledge of developmental and diagnosis and is able to apply it in daily practice,</p> <p>Cleans departmental equipment and organizes closets as designated in the competency expectations, following established timelines, taking initiative to organize and clean other areas when needed,</p> <p>Monitors and maintains inventory of general supplies and equipment as designated in competency expectations, ordering supplies in an accurate timely manner,</p> <p>Assists department staff in planning and implementation of therapy groups, special events and community trips,</p> <p>Communicates effectively with patients, families and staff,</p> <p>Orients and supervises assigned volunteers and community groups according to hospital policy,</p> <p>Ability to assess and evaluate overall patient level of functioning to determine appropriate activities and adaptations,</p> <p>Performs other duties as assigned based on need of department</p> <p>Maintains a safe environment for patient care activities</p> <p>In LTC programs, completes required documentation on day of service</p> <p>Implements diversional recreation activities and opportunities for a variety of ages and abilities</p> <p>Formal Education and Job Related Experience</p> <p>Higher Education preferred,</p> <p>Previous work experience with children with special needs or previous experience with children,</p> <p>Experience working with challenging behaviors is preferred,</p> <p>Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of disabling conditions,</p> <p>Tact, enthusiasm, initiative and judgment in performance of duties,</p> <p>Flexibility related to scheduled hours each week is required to meet patient needs,</p> <p>Certification</p> <p>American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification required,</p> <p>License</p> <p>Valid drivers license required,</p> <p>Education and Experience Additional Comments</p> <p>Expectation to work 12 weekend days per year,</p> <p>Job Specific Contacts</p> <p>Direct contact with patients, families, other therapists, nursing staff and volunteers,</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Therapy areas, community settings, nursing units,</p> <p>Working Environment Additional Comments</p> <p>Physical stamina for lifting and therapeutic handling of patients,</p> <p>Job Provides Direction To</p> <p>None</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>None</p> <p>RWJBarnabas Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer</p>
