<p>The City of West Allis is now hiring for a Water Maintainer to join our dedicated Public Works team!</p> <p>Are you a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in maintaining vital infrastructure? In this skilled role, you'll be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution system-critical work that directly supports the health, safety, and well-being of our community. This position requires emotional intelligence, a strong work ethic, accountability, and initiative to perform the duties effectively.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities: </p> <ul> <li>Serve as a competent person on excavation sites, ensuring safety and compliance. </li><li>Direct and assist crews in water main repairs, valve maintenance, and service leak responses </li><li>Operate heavy motorized equipment, including backhoes, loaders, drill rigs, and hydro-excavation trucks. </li><li>Perform semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks on water infrastructure. </li><li>Lead small crews and assist in training Maintenance Repairers </li><li>Maintain accurate records, work orders, and reports using asset management systems </li><li>Read and interpret GIS utility maps, as-built drawings, and construction plans </li><li>Communicate effectively with residents, contractors, and other departments </li><li>Respond to emergencies such as water main breaks, pressure test failures, and hydrant flushing </li></ul> <p>Click  HERE for the full Job Description.</p> <p>An Ideal Candidate will have utility or contractor experience running a construction crew.  They would be very familiar with underground utilities and the equipment used to repair water mains and services.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Possession of a High School diploma/GED</p> <p>Possession of a valid CDL (Class B, C with airbrakes) and Tanker Endorsement</p> <p>2+ years of water infrastructure with backhoe experience</p> <p>Must be available to work nights, weekends, overtime, and at odd hours when emergency conditions require such duty, and to serve on a rotational "watch duty". </p> <p>As you take care of our city, we'll take care of you!</p> <p>We offer valuable benefits, including medical and fully paid dental coverage, generous time off starting at 25 days a year, a contributory dual pension system, </p> <p>and opportunities for training and advancement.
