<p>Extended School Year (ESY) Middle School Teaching Assistant</p> <p>Program Dates</p> <p>ESY is in session 6/1/2026-6/25/2026, Monday-Thursday</p> <p>Staff Hours</p> <p>8:15am-12:45pm</p> <p>Hourly rate of pay*</p> <p>$31.07/hr - Summer School Teaching</p> <ul> <li>Support staff employees performing these duties will be paid at their regular hourly rate for the length of time the duty is performed until they reach 40 hours in a week. All hours worked over 40 hours in one week will be at the employees overtime rate. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ideal candidate has extensive experience working with students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and communication delays. </li><li>Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred </li><li>Please note that only candidates who are available to work the entire program will be considered. </li></ul> <p>Licensure, certification, and other requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must have an Illinois Paraprofessional license, Substitute license, or Teacher license registered in Lake County. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of basic instructional strategies and classroom routines </li><li>Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) </li><li>Knowledge of disability-related supports appropriate to assigned students </li><li>Skill in supporting teacher-directed instruction in small group and individual settings </li><li>Skill in implementing behavior support plans and de-escalation strategies </li><li>Skill in collecting and recording student performance data as directed </li><li>Skill in maintaining clear and professional communication with staff </li><li>Ability to follow written and verbal directions </li><li>Ability to support students with varying academic, behavioral, and functional needs </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality </li><li>Ability to create and maintain a safe, structured learning environment </li><li>Ability to be flexible and responsive in a fast-paced summer program </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Assist in implementing IEP goals under the direction of the special education teacher </li><li>Support instructional activities in individual and small group settings </li><li>Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans </li><li>Collect and document student data as assigned </li><li>Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, arrival/dismissal, and other assigned times </li><li>Support student safety, including during movement throughout the building </li><li>Provide personal care assistance if required by assignment </li><li>Collaborate with the ESY teacher and related service providers </li><li>Participate in required ESY training and planning meetings </li><li>Perform other ESY-related duties as assigned </li></ul>
