<p>APPLY NOW</p> <p>PROMOTIONAL POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT</p> <ul> <li>Open to Non-Probationary Employees Only* </li></ul> <p>This position will serve in one of five (5) bureaus to be determined: Office of the Chief, Bureau of Administration, Bureau of Field Operations, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, or Bureau of Special Enforcement.</p> <ul> <li> <p>OFFICE OF THE CHIEF:</p> </li><li> <p>The purpose of this position is to assist in policy and procedure development and revision, ensure CALEA Accreditation, conduct internal affairs investigations, act as department liaison to other law enforcement and government agencies, and conduct special projects for the Chief of Police. The work is performed under the direction of the Chief of Police.</p> </li><li> <p>BUREAU OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES:</p> </li><li> <p>The purpose of this position is to develop, direct, and implement community crime prevention/safety education programs, and to assist with budget preparation and grant proposals; directs management services and oversees Body Camera program and Police Records. The work is performed under the direction of the Bureau Commander</p> </li><li> <p>BUREAU OF FIELD OPERATIONS:</p> </li><li> <p>The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and assist the Bureau Commander in overseeing Police Department Patrol operations, including patrol and investigations; assist and collaborate with the Chief of Police and other department Captains regarding overall general management issues; and supervise, schedule, and evaluate subordinates. Performs duties as Watch Commander or BFO Deputy Bureau Commander. The work is performed under the direction of the Bureau Commander.</p> </li><li> <p>BUREAU OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION:</p> </li><li> <p>The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate, and manage the staffing and control of criminal investigations. This position commands the Cyber Crime Unit, St. Charles County Regional SWAT, or functions as the Deputy Bureau Commander. The work is performed under the direction of the Bureau Commander.</p> </li><li> <p>BUREAU OF OPERATIONAL SUPPORT:</p> </li><li> <p>The purpose of this position is to plan staffing, control, and coordination of special operations, serve as the Commander for the St. Charles County Regional SWAT Team, and assist the Bureau Commander on special assignments as directed. The work is performed under the direction of the Bureau Commander.</p> </li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Education</p> </li><li> <p>An associate's degree or 60 college credit hours are required.</p> </li><li> <p>Certifications</p> </li><li> <p>Missouri POST certification</p> </li><li> <p>Valid motor vehicle operator's license</p> </li><li> <p>Job Experience</p> </li><li> <p>Six years of law enforcement experience required.</p> </li><li> <p>Current Sergeant with St. Charles County Police Department with a minimum of one (1) year of experience with St. Charles County Police Department as a Sergeant.</p> </li></ul> <p>EXAMINATION COMPONENTS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Applicants interested in promotion to the Lieutenant position must have no categories with ratings below "Meets Expectations" in their last Annual Performance Evaluation.</p> </li><li> <p>The examination process consists of a Written Exam, a Structured Oral Interview, an evaluation of the candidate's education, experience, performance appraisals, attendance, and documented job performance.</p> </li><li> <p>Applicants are required to submit an Education & Experience Form and documentation to support their claim for points to Lt. Eric Feagans in the Police Department by 10:00 am on December 30th, 2025.</p> </li><li> <p>Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% on the Written Exam and Structured Oral Interview to continue in the promotional process.</p> </li><li> <p>Scores from the written examination, structured oral interview, education & experience, and job performance will be tabulated to determine the applicants' ratings, at which point candidates will be added to the Eligibility List in rank order.</p> </li><li> <p>The top 50% (or top three (3), whichever is greater) of qualified applicants on the eligibility list shall advance to the Chief's Interview. If less than three (3) applicants are placed on the eligibility list, each qualified applicant shall advance to the Chief's Interview.</p> </li><li> <p>Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% on the Chief's Interview to be considered for promotion.</p> </li><li> <p>The following points will be assigned to each step of the promotional process to determine an applicant's final score:</p> </li><li> <p>Written Examination - 30 points.</p> </li><li> <p>Structured Oral Interview - 30 points.</p> </li><li> <p>Education and Experience - 5 points.</p> </li><li> <p>Job Performance - 5 points.</p> </li><li> <p>Chief's Interview - 30 points.</p> </li><li> <p>Scores from all components will then be tabulated to determine the applicants' final ratings, at which point Human Resources will certify up to fifteen (15) candidates from the Eligibility List for the position Certification List.</p> </li></ul> <p>ELIGIBILITY LIST:</p> <ul> <li>Candidates must meet all qualifications and pass all examination components to be added to the Eligibility List. </li><li>Eligibility lasts for one year for the Lieutenant position (unless the list is canceled or examination procedures are revised). Written exam scores will remain active for two years, unless the candidate decides to retake the exam. </li><li>The Eligibility List may be utilized to fill similar law enforcement positions that become vacant. </li></ul> <p>TO APPLY: All applications must be submitted using the APPLY NOW link above. The results of the exam may take up to 7 business days. Those who pass the Written Exam will be scheduled for Structured Oral Interviews.</p> <p>STRUCTURED ORAL INTERVIEWS:</p> <ul> <li>Structured Oral Interviews will be scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026. </li><li>Chief's Interviews will be scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2026. </li></ul> <p>These will both take place at the St. Charles County Police Department, 101 Sheriff Dierker Court, O'Fallon, MO 63366.
