Are you passionate about building and pioneering cloud solutions? Do you enjoy solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative delivery environment? In this exciting role, you will partner closely with technical teams, product owners, and other business stakeholders to design, build, and maintain solutions on our cloud platforms.</p> <p>As a Cloud Operations Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the architecture, implementation, and operations of our Cloud environments, ensuring our cloud infrastructure is optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability. You will directly manage a dedicated Cloud Operations team and oversee partnerships with our service providers. Your responsibilities will include automating cloud operations, managing cloud infrastructure across AWS (primary) and Azure (secondary), and ensuring security and compliance in line with established standards and best practices.</p> <p>You will be instrumental throughout the lifecycle of our cloud services - from designing robust cloud architectures and networking strategies to implementing continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated management and deployment. You will utilize tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation, and AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, and Lambda to build and maintain scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant environments supporting our global enterprise operations.</p> <p>Additionally, you will proactively monitor cloud infrastructure health, analyze performance metrics, and implement strategies for cost optimization. Collaborating closely with development teams, you will provide infrastructure support for software applications and participate in strategic initiatives such as disaster recovery and business continuity planning. You will also have significant opportunities to innovate, influence the selection of new technologies, tools, and methodologies, and drive strategic initiatives.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Lead the Cloud Operations team responsible for configuration, monitoring, management, and optimization of our cloud environments. </li><li>Review, modernize, and optimize operational processes, focusing specifically on cloud operations, automation, and development practices to leverage emerging technologies and methodologies. </li><li>Collaborate with development teams, enterprise architects, infrastructure, networking, and security teams to develop robust, secure, and scalable cloud architectures, and clearly define functional requirements for AWS environments. </li><li>Partner in the design, development, and implementation of advanced cloud-based capabilities and technologies including AI & machine learning, containers, serverless computing, and orchestration/automation solutions. </li><li>Provide expert technical guidance on complex issues, technology selection, solution architecture, deployment strategies, and ongoing maintenance of cloud environments. </li><li>Communicate clearly and effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior IT leadership. </li><li>Solve complex operational and architectural problems through innovative, sustainable solutions. </li><li>Advocate and evangelize the adoption of cloud-focused technologies and processes, highlighting their value to both business and technical audiences. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education & Certificates</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree required; major in Information Technology, or similar discipline, strongly preferred </li><li>AWS Certified Solution Architect, AWS Certified System Administrator, or similar certifications strongly preferred </li><li>Industry standard certifications preferred </li></ul> <p>Professional Experience</p> <ul> <li>8+ years of relevant IT experience required. </li><li>5+ years designing, implementing, and supporting cloud platforms, primarily AWS. Familiarity or experience with Azure is advantageous. </li><li>Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, VPC, Lambda, CloudWatch, ECS, Fargate, SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB. </li><li>Proven experience in architecting and deploying scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant solutions, along with disaster recovery and business continuity planning within cloud environments. </li><li>Strong expertise in cloud security principles, including IAM, security groups, and encryption practices. </li><li>Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, Azure DevOps) for automated software deployment. </li><li>Proficiency with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using AWS CloudTrail, CloudWatch, and similar third-party tools. </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation tasks. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to perform cloud cost analysis, identify cost optimization strategies, and implement cost-saving initiatives. </li><li>Awareness of and commitment to continuous learning and emerging cloud technologies, including AI and ML, to inform future strategies and implementations. </li></ul> <p>Competencies & Attributes</p> <ul> <li>Cloud Fluency: Deep technical expertise with AWS and familiarity or comfort learning and working with other cloud platforms, particularly Azure. You have experience architecting, implementing, and operating large-scale, globally distributed cloud platforms. </li><li>Leadership: Experienced leading technical teams within matrixed management environments. You excel in collaborating across security, networking, and systems teams to integrate cloud platforms effectively with existing infrastructure and tools. </li><li>Communication: Skilled at evangelizing cloud technologies and clearly articulating their benefits to diverse stakeholders. You build strong relationships and establish credibility with both technical and non-technical colleagues. </li><li>Problem Solving: Exceptional ability to identify stakeholder needs, translate feedback into actionable solutions, and prioritize tasks effectively. Adept at balancing multiple initiatives and maintaining focus on critical deliverables. </li><li>Can-Do Attitude: You embrace new responsibilities, pursue continuous learning, and proactively seek innovative solutions to improve operations and drive strategic value. </li><li>Exceptional problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues effectively. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of clearly articulating complex topics and confidently presenting information to stakeholders of diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds. </li><li>Proven collaboration skills across multiple technology and project teams to deliver effective solutions. </li><li>Ability to clearly convey ideas and information in presentations and documentation in an engaging and accessible manner. </li><li>Demonstrated capability to prioritize, multitask, and execute responsibilities under high-pressure conditions. </li></ul> <p>Benefits/Compensation</p> <p>The compensation range for this role is specific to Washington, DC, and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.</p> <p>The anticipated base salary range for this role is $165,000 to $185,000.</p> <p>In addition to the base salary, the hired professional will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package spanning retirement benefits, health insurance, life insurance and disability, paid time off, paid holidays, family planning benefits and various wellness programs.
